Quick Overview : Help out at a local children?s home in Peru and be a part of improving the lives of the physically and mentally disabled. This program is for those looking to assist this special needs center in a variety of ways. You will be part of daily therapy sessions, helping the local staff with disabled care, and interacting with these special children. After this program you are sure to gain a new appreciation for life and caring for others! — PROGRAM DESCRIPTION : Spend some of your time at this special home for children (and some adults) with physical and mental disabilities. This program is perfect for those looking to work with children that require a higher level of care and assistance. You will be helping to take care of roughly 30 children, as well as assisting the program staff with their daily tasks. Many of these children have been raised within the program site after losing their parents and your care and attention will be well received by them! Activities you can look forward to being a part of include therapy sessions, educational lessons, dancing lessons and outdoor activity. You might also find yourself helping to make classroom materials, painting, cutting firewood, and organising the facility. The main goal of the organisation is to maximise what these children can do on their own, with the hope that one day they are able to get jobs and live fulfilling lives! AIMS &OBJECTIVES : Increase the independence of individuals at the children’s home Improve your ability to work with special needs children, Assist the local staff with extra hands. – Schedule : Monday to Friday : Because the children attend school in the morning, the program will be based more in the afternoon. You’ll interact and assist the local staff in their various routines around the center from around lunch till dinner time.

Standard Accommodation You will be staying in our accommodation center in rural Cajamarca. The house is made with traditional materials such as adobe and stone, it also has large gardens and its own chicken coop off to the side. Wifi will be available in your rooms but keep in mind that it may not be stable at times. We recommend also using 3G data if this is important for you. All participants are expected to be environmentally aware and to use all resources with restraint, especially water, paper and electricity. Although rooms will be cleaned daily by staff, you will be expected to clean up after yourself, and to play your part to keep the accommodation neat and organized. Food arrangements The food will be typically Peruvian meaning lots of corn, beans, rice, chilli peppers, potatoes, wheat, and other grain, all very vegetarian friendly. Keep in mind that some local dishes may be spicy! Facilities Since our centre is located in close proximity to the township of Baños del Inca, you will have access to a range of facilities including the local gym and swimming pool.

Location You will be staying in the Los Baños del Inca district east of Cajamarca, it is known for being centered on a naturally occurring thermal spring.
