In Uganda’s rural areas, most villagers devote their lives to farming as this has been passed on from generation to generation. Since they are born, local villagers learn to live with only the basics and they grow their own food. In this program, you will work alongside local farmers and help them do their work. Your tasks might include planting and watering the crops, cleaning the farm, feeding the animals, picking fruits and vegetables and other things depending on what is needed at the time. Some days might get busy, while others might be more relaxed as you will be working at the pace of the farmers, who also choose to have “lazy” days. Besides working with crops, you will be working with animals as well, including cows, sheep, goats, etc. This program will give you a great insight into life in rural Uganda, as you will be working and interacting with local people in a very off-the-beaten-path way.
