Each of the two care-homes in this area cater for around 25 Vietnamese children with various disabilities, mainly blindness, but also mental health issues. Experience in this field (or one similar such as nursing, elderly care, child care), would be advantageous but is not essential. The children are around the ages of 5-20 years old and are all from families who cannot afford to pay for the daily care of their children. Some of these children are well enough to go to school, others make themselves useful at a local massage parlour. But for those too young or unable physically or mentally to do either, their whole day is spent at this caring facility, where your help would go a long way! The main role you will play at this program is caring for the children. This will be in the form of spending quality time with them, comforting them and socialising with them. You will also be arranging activities for the children, teaching them simple english words and phrases through lessons, games and conversations. You can also help in the daily tasks of the centre, like creating handicrafts to raise money, preparing food and assisting the children in their daily tasks. Activities encouraged and enjoyed by the children include playing games, dancing, singing and arts and crafts. Any activity that would encourage creativity is welcomed for the children. So if you would like to bring any materials to assist with the aforementioned activities, this would be warmly received! The aims are to care for disabled children and work together to improve their quality of life, to provide insight into the local work ethic and culture through the local organisation and staff, to provide you with teaching and disabled-care experience.

This cozy guesthouse has 7 rooms available for our participants and is conveniently located in the center of La Gi’s township. It is only 10-15 minutes by taxi from the local beach. It has a small lobby but it has surrounding coffee shops for any relaxing or journal writing you may want to do in your downtime as well as several local restaurants that compete for who makes the best Pho in town. WiFi is available inside the accommodation, but please note that the quality of the Internet access depends on weather conditions. Since we are in Southeast Asia, we might have poor internet accessibility at times due to heavy raining. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided at this guesthouse, and in some cases a restaurant outside the guesthouse.

location &leisure La Gi is a small beach town located in the south of Vietnam. As a village town, La Gi’s attractions feel more authentic and closer to a local experience due to its non touristic nature. La Gi will give you the chance to live like a local and learn about life in Vietnam while being able to unwind at its beautiful beaches! Facilities A supermarket is within walking distance (10 -15 minutes walk) and an ATM machine is a bit further but also accessible with a 20 minutes walk. There are many taxis around. You can easily catch a taxi or rickshaw from the main road to reach your destination of choice. There are many local beaches around, which remain quiet during most of the day until the afternoon, when the villagers enjoy unwinding from work/school and head there to relax. Here are a few suggestions for things to do during the weekend: Coco Beach – Located 8 kms outside of La Gi, it can be reached by taxi and is the perfect place for young people. Teenagers and young adults from nearby towns love hanging out here as there is a bar, cozy futons to relax in, hammocks and endless decorations that make it an ideal photo opportunity place. During the evenings, it becomes the ideal spot to hang out in as this beach is famous for its parties, bonfire nights and whatnot. Moreover, it is also a camping place, making it the ideal getaway spot for some relaxing weekend at the beach. Mui Ne – located 80 kilometers from La Gi, it is a famous town known for its beaches and endless sand dunes. Mui Ne is on every traveler’s bucket list while in Vietnam for its vibe, its incredible landscapes and its sandboarding opportunities. Ho Chi Minh – Located 4 hours away by bus from La Gi, it is the largest town in Vietnam ideal for those who enjoy the bustle and hustle of Asian towns. It is also the best place to go to for nights out in the famous District 1. Dalat – A bit further afield than the rest but still reachable from La Gi (213 kilometers away). Dalat is another must in Vietnam. Known as “the city of love”. It is so beautiful that, during the Colonial times, the French dubbed it their favorite destination in the country. The town is filled with pagodas, French architecture, flower gardens and even a “Crazy House”, a gallery, hostel and coffee shop that was built to look like a tree. Aside from enjoying the city, you can also head out of town to numerous waterfalls and stunning nature.
