Twice per month on Mondays, volunteers can choose to participate in our teaching program at a local School in Lovina. The teaching curriculum exists of a variety of English-based subjects, offered in a playful manner to children from the local area age from 5-12 years. Volunteers can choose to stand in front of a class with other volunteers or alone. Each group exist of approximately 25 bright and cheerful children, who rather play than learn. From Monday till Friday participants will be surrounded by many children. Caring for them and understanding their behavior is a hard criterion to participate in this program, as well as having a good level of English. The experienced teacher will find the freedom to be creative and design their own lesson plans, a refreshing change for some of our more mature volunteers, who tell us it takes them back to the “good old days. Those with less or no experience will have whatever support and guidance is needed from our teaching centre, a relaxed environment matching the Balinese way of doing things, but with up to date teaching methods from experienced teachers.

Volunteers will be accommodated in one of Green Lions’ volunteer houses in the village of Tukadmunga. Located on the street leading to the beach 5 minute by walk. Village life is quintessentially local and you will get a good chance to see typical Balinese life – roosters crowing and all! where you will get the chance to interact with local families and practice your new-found language skills. Volunteers can expect to share a room (dormitory style) with four to eight other volunteers. The bathroom is shared, with a hot water shower and western toilets. For couples or those wanting more privacy, there are upgrade accommodation available for an additional cost per week. Please contact us in advance to check for the possibility for that program period. There are an option of accommodation upgrade: Private room (private bathroom). Indonesian food is tasty and diverse and volunteers can expect to experience a myriad of flavors and meals during their stay. Typical dishes included mie goreng (fried noodles and vegetables), nasi goreng (fried rice and vegetables) or gado gado (mixed vegetables with a satay sauce). For those who do not eat meat, Indonesian cooking uses a lot of tofu and tempeh (soy beans), we also provide for some of western dishes. Breakfasts are varied and include pancakes, fresh fruit, toast etc. Tea, coffee and purified water is available at the volunteer house. We do not recommend that you drink the tap water. We provide for 3 meals during weekday (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and 2 meals during the weekend (breakfast, dinner).

Our volunteer houses are located in Tukadmungga village and it will take about 10-15 minute to Lovina center. There are several cafés and beaches in the village which volunteers can relax and hang out after their program ends. – ATM’s: There are many ATM’s in Lovina center which is about a 5 minute drive from the house. – Internet use: We have Wi-Fi at the house. – Personal Sim card for your mobile: You can buy at the local shop. There are good grocery stores in Singaraja city with 15 minute drive, 24 hour stores and plentiful small, family run shops where you will be able to find everything that you need from toiletries, to drinks, to sanitary and other personal items you require. If you want to eat out occasionally, there is a wide selection of restaurants with high standards of International and local cuisine. Please note, prices in tourist restaurants often include 5% service charge and 10% tax – additional tipping is appreciated but not necessary. There are several swimming pools nearby the house center that you can use. The entrance at swimming pool costs about 3USD, swimming pools take about 15 minute by taxi from our center. Since the weekends are free, you are able to go wherever you would like to go. Several popular destinations are The Gili Islands, Nusa Lembongan, Ubud, Sanur, Kuta and Uluwatu. These are all easy to reach by taxi.
