Our Bali experience project was designed to get our participants fully immersed into Balinese culture. Through language lessons, cooking workshops, exploring the main sights as well as the offthebeaten path ones, meeting locals, lending a hand at one of our projects and many more activities. Our Bali experience project/road trip is one of our most popular programs and it consists of three action packed weeks of adventure and experiences that will immerse you deeply into Balinese culture. Each week has a different theme and its own charm that will help you get the most out of your time in Bali. You will start and finish your holiday at our center in Ubud enjoying the town, wandering around the market, trekking in the stunning area with a relaxing Balinese massage to ease tired muscles, indulging in the best Bali offers through cultural visits, meeting locals and giving back to the community by helping out in some of our programs. – Week 1: Introduction Week – Week 2: Cultural Immersion Week: teaching, environmental, medical or kindergarten projects. – Week 3: Adventure Week
Volunteers will be accommodated in one of Green Lions’ volunteer houses in the village of Penestanan Kaja. The Balinese place great importance on family and the volunteer houses are located amongst Balinese compounds, where you will get the chance to interact with local families and practice your new-found language skills. There is a pool in a nearby guesthouse, which you can use for US$3. Volunteers can expect to share a room (dormitory style) with four to eight other volunteers. The bathroom is shared, with a hot water shower and western toilets. For couples or those wanting more privacy, there are upgrade accommodation available for an additional cost per week. Please contact us in advance to check for the possibility for that program period. There are three option of accommodation upgrade below: 1.Single room 2.Private room (private toilet) 3.Private Villa ( private toilet, Kitchen and Balcony) All participants are expected to be environmentally responsible and to use all resources with restraint, especially water, paper and electricity. You will be expected to clean up after yourself, and to play your part to keep the accommodation neat and tidy. The volunteer must share taxis for long distance trips and walk for the short distance trips. Indonesian food is tasty and diverse and volunteers can expect to experience a myriad of flavors and meals during their stay. Typical dishes included mie goreng (fried noodles and vegetables), nasi goreng (fried rice and vegetables) or gado gado (mixed vegetables with a satay sauce). For those who do not eat meat, Indonesian cooking uses a lot of tofu and tempeh (soy beans), we also provide for some of western dish Breakfasts are varied and include pancakes, fresh fruit, toast etc. Tea, coffee will be available at the volunteer house. Purified water is available in the volunteer house. We do not recommend that you drink the tap water. 3 meals during weekday and 2 meals during weekend.
Our houses are located in Penestanan village and it will take about 1015 minutes to reach the center of Ubud. All facilities that you could want are within easy access of our accommodation. There are ATMs and a 7/11 within 1 minute walk away. The guest house is located 100m from Khao San road, the busiest and liveliest backpacker’s hotspot. In Ubud there are good grocery stores, 24 hour stores and plentiful small, family run shops where you will be able to find everything that you need. If you want to eat out occasionally, there is a wide selection of restaurants with high standards of both international and local cuisine. There are several cafes in the village, where you can relax and hang out with other participants on your spare time. There are two swimming pools, both located a five minute walk from our center. There are several gyms around our housecenter. Since the weekends are free, you are able to go wherever you would like to go. Several popular destinations that you can reach by taxi are: The Gili Islands, where you will find small resorts and huts for tourists looking to get away from the bustle of Ubud. The islands are a popular destination for snorkelling and diving due to its abundant marine life. Nusa Lembongan, an island paradise with one of the most clear waters that you will ever see and where you can find peace and completely relax. Surfing, diving and snorkeling and amongst the most popular activities that visitors can enjoy. Lovina, located between the Bedugul mountains and the sea, it is popular for dolphin watching, trekking, hot springs and its gorgeous coral reefs. Sanur, a stretch of beach in southeast Bali that contains villa resorts and Zen Villas. Historically, it was used as the landing site for the Dutch invasion troops during the Dutch invasion in 1906 as well as being the entry point into Bali for the Japanese during WWII. Kuta, a beach known of its surfing opportunities and party atmosphere. Uluwatu, a temple built at the edge of a 70 meter high cliff at the edge of the sea and inhabited by monkeys.
