ICYE India The Advaith Foundation runs children group care homes for children from economically deprived section. The homes are run as units of 105 children. The children are aged 3 to 15.
Advaith Foundation runs children group care homes for children from economically deprived areas. The homes are run as units of 10 children, each with about 4 staff members. The children are in the age group of 3-5 years old. They are boarded in the project during their schooling. Parents are welcome to come visit and the children can visit their home twice a year. The volunteer will be teaching English to the children through various activities/assisting the English teacher ; Developing reusable teaching aids ;Teaching children how to use computers ; Designing activities to convey values to children ; Caring for the children ; Story telling.
The volunteer will live at the project site in her/his own room. Food will be provided by the host placement.
Bangalore city. About 45 minutes by bus from ICDE office in Jayanagar, Bangalore.
The volunteer should be mature, committed, friendly, have patience, enthusiastic and able to deal with kids. Volunteers should bring: Mosquito repellent (can be bought in Bangalore), Light warm clothes for rainy weather and winter, Games, toys or ideas for activities for the children. The ICYE programme started in India in 1983. Inter Cultural Dialogue &Exchange – India, (ICDE – India), founded in 2006 by a group of former ICYE volunteers is a secular organisation, with its main office in Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
Voluntary service host placements, mostly in Karnataka and adjacent South Indian states, include homes for street children, orphanages, disabled, old age homes, people with HIV/AIDS, health care, agriculture / farming, women’s projects, rural and community development, etc. ICYE India, upon request, offers opportunities to learn/study yoga, Indian music and Indian classical dance, music, herbal medicine, Indian philosophy, spirituality.
