ICYE India The New Ark Mission of India was started in the year 1997 by Mr. T. Raja. It is an organization solely dedicated to rescuing and rebuilding the lives of the destitute and dying people of the streets. The Home of Hope is a centre of the New Ark Mission of India.
Today, the home accommodates and cares for more than 200 residents who have been rescued from the most inhumane and unhygienic circumstances. It is a place of solace and shelter for people who are suffering from AIDS, Cancer and Kidney failures besides many who are mentally challenged. These residents who were once disowned by their families and doomed to fend for them have found a new reason to live. These 170 residents would have been a statistic on the list of Bangalores unidentified dead if Raja had not reached them. The principal activities of the project are: Bringing people from the streets into their new Home of Hope. Accommodation will be provided by the host project campus.
The project is situated more then 15 km outside Bangalore on Doddagubbi village.
The volunteer must be mature and friendly, responsible and should have good knowledge of English. There should be no smoking or consumption of alcohol in the campus. Volunteers should bring: – Mosquito repellent ( can be bought in Bangalore) – Light warm clothes for rainly weather and winter – Games, toys or ideas for activities for the children. Taking picture in the project is prohibited. The ICYE programme started in India in 1983. Inter Cultural Dialogue &Exchange – India, (ICDE – India), founded in 2006 by a group of former ICYE volunteers is a secular organisation, with its main office in Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
Voluntary service host placements, mostly in Karnataka and adjacent South Indian states, include homes for street children, orphanages, disabled, old age homes, people with HIV/AIDS, health care, agriculture / farming, women’s projects, rural and community development, etc. ICYE India, upon request, offers opportunities to learn/study yoga, Indian music and Indian classical dance, music, herbal medicine, Indian philosophy, spirituality.
