ICYE India In 1997, Mahantesh G.K. and two of his friends envisioned an organisation to provide opportunities for the deserving, young, and talented children with disability of any form, or from marginalized economic backgrounds. Thus, more than a decade ago, Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled came into existence by providing free hostel facilities to the deserving students.
Samarthanam?s mission is to empower the visually impaired, disabled and underprivileged people through developmental initiatives focusing on educational, social, economic, cultural and technological aspects. Volunteers? tasks: Reading to the visually challenged students, Scribe service for the students, Conduct tuition classes for the students. Conduct tuition classes online through Skype voice chat, Conduct classes on communication (English), soft skills &personality development, Conduct general mentoring and counselling for the students, Teach music, dance, games and other activities to the students.
The volunteer will live at the project. Food will be provided by the project.
The organisation is located at Southern part of Bangalore. It’s situated 20 km away from Bangalore city. The localities of area Majority families are middle level economical groups.
The volunteer should be Mature, committed, friendly, patient, enthusiastic and able to deal with disabilities. Volunteers should bring Mosquito repellent (can be bought in Bangalore), Light warm clothes for rainy weather and winter, Games, toys or ideas for activities for the children. The ICYE programme started in India in 1983. Inter Cultural Dialogue &Exchange – India, (ICDE – India), founded in 2006 by a group of former ICYE volunteers is a secular organisation, with its main office in Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
Voluntary service host placements, mostly in Karnataka and adjacent South Indian states, include homes for street children, orphanages, disabled, old age homes, people with HIV/AIDS, health care, agriculture / farming, women’s projects, rural and community development, etc. ICYE India, upon request, offers opportunities to learn/study yoga, Indian music and Indian classical dance, music, herbal medicine, Indian philosophy, spirituality.
