ICYE India The organization was established in the year 1888 as ?Bangalore Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals? and was registered as a charitable society on 24th May 1916. The name of the organization has changed to ?Karuna Animal Welfare Association of Karnataka? on 30th September 2001. Karuna is a member of WSPA, England and North Shore Animal League, USA.
Volunteers have to involve in routine work of Animal Shelter, viz, Kennel cleaning, feeding, walking and bath to animals, interaction with visitors to shelter etc. Assisting the doctors to provide health care. Humane Education programme such as visit to schools, arranging competition for school children on Animal Welfare Themes. Providing information about present Animal Welfare laws /acts in India. Involvement in fund raising programmes. Visit to animal shelters and animal houses, visit to Veterinary Hospitals, Wildlife sanctuaries and other places of wild &domesticated animal importance.
The volunteer will live in host family in her/his own room. Food will be provided by the host family.
Volunteer should be a animal lover and ready to serve animals in our local conditions. They shoud brin: Mosquito repellent (can be bought in Bangalore), Light warm clothes for rainy weather and winter. The ICYE programme started in India in 1983. Inter Cultural Dialogue &Exchange – India, (ICDE – India), founded in 2006 by a group of former ICYE volunteers is a secular organisation, with its main office in Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
Voluntary service host placements, mostly in Karnataka and adjacent South Indian states, include homes for street children, orphanages, disabled, old age homes, people with HIV/AIDS, health care, agriculture / farming, women’s projects, rural and community development, etc. ICYE India, upon request, offers opportunities to learn/study yoga, Indian music and Indian classical dance, music, herbal medicine, Indian philosophy, spirituality.
