Vision:To be a model program, by the year 2018, in comprehensive care and inclusion for people with disabilities, promoting rights-based active inclusion in society according to their abilities. Mission: We are a programme that satisfies the needs of a comprehensive care and inclusion for people with disabilities in situations of abandonment, generating a family atmosphere with security, health, rehabilitation and education. Purpose: Provide quality of life and happiness for the programme’s beneficiaries. Main Activities Quality of Life: This strategic approach aims to provide the people with disabilities all the necessary elements for them to live in a dignified and happy way. The quantitative leap in this area is that it is not enough just to provide a safe environment and provide for the basic needs, but to pursue the people’s happiness. This represents an intense approach regarding staff development and support for the implementation of the life plan for people with disabilities, regardless of the depth of their deficiency. To achieve this, a multi-disciplinary professional team will be established, composed of psychologists, social workers, teachers, doctors, nurses, functional therapists, personal assistants and support equipment that will allow for the development of care programs and personal development at the same time. Generation of skills for Life: This strategic aim is oriented to develop the educational and vocational skills of people who are independent or moderately independent, so they can be included in sheltered workshops. The activities that will be carried out seek that young people and adults with disabilities can go about building a livelihood that contributes to their self-sufficiency, but especially in the construction of their personal identity and self-esteem. Independent Life: the programme designed for youth and adults classified as independent and that seeks to provide the necessary support to promote autonomy and independence through apprenticeships useful for their integral development. This means, developing actions that progressively increase their security, confidence and self-esteem, and maintaining or improving their physical state and their health. In this programme, skills will be strengthened and developed in the following areas: Development of skills for life and home, Psycho-social development, Academic and professional development and Labour and Workforce development. Link with the community: The “Los Ángeles” programme plans to generate a close link between the inhabitants of the municipality of Valle de Angeles and surrounding communities with the goal of building social fabric and that people with disabilities feel part of a community, while awareness is raised in the community and there is support for the activities developed by the programme. As a first instance, we have developed a disability prevention programme and subsequently outreach activities will be developed to link church groups, volunteers and entrepreneurs with the youth with disabilities. Volunteer tasks He/She could assist in: Providing support for the educators in house shores. Teaching on subjects like art, sports, theatre, etc. Accompanying the children and youth during walks and visits. Assist the trainers with the physical rehabilitation (he/she will be trained and accompanied by a professional trainer). Organize any type of activity to share with the children and youth. Available in August and January.
The volunteer will live at the project.
The “Los Angeles” programme is located approximately 5 minutes away from the town of Valle de Ángeles (by car), in the central region of Francisco Morazán. Valle de Ángeles is a pittoresque town that has become one of the favourite places for a weekend getaway for people who live in Tegucigalpa. Its proximity, just 30 km away, and the well-paved road connecting it to the capital city has made it popular with foreigners, many of which have settled in this area. During the week, Valle de Ángeles is a calm place with few visitors; however, there is lots going on during the weekends. In the town, there are designated areas for arts and crafts expositions, which consist of various halls. There, you can observe a vast selección of honduran handmade crafts, many of which are made in Valle de Ángeles.
