Islamic schools are educational institutions which teach Islamic knowledge wider on the level of senior high school. Public schools aim to prepare the students to be ready in continuing their study to higher educational level, and give them basic knowledge and life skill in order to find their own potential for their lives. Dejavato offers several placements for people interested in volunteering with school students. For the Senior High level the placements are: SMA Islam Sultan Agung 2 Kalinyamatan, MA Darul Ulum Purwogondo, MA Al Ilrsyad, MTS Nu Ungaran, MTS Zumrotul Wildan, MTS Winong, MTS Safinatul Huda Kedung. There are also two islamic boarding schools: Pesantren Al Madani and Rodlotul Mubtadiin Boarding School. Main Activities Implement the curriculum standard national as their compulsory activities such as providing 2 program studies for their students, science and social. Besides teaching formal subjects, the students also have lesson of reading and learning the Holy Quran. The students ages are between 15 to 17 years old. The minimum educational access, learning method and human resource initiates them in collaborating International Voluntary Service activities to support their language studies in specific and overall studies in general. Moreover, the schools provide extra activities in order to search and find student’s interest such as music, art, sport and technology. The education system managed by the school is very open and responsive with the new ideas and knowledge. Volunteer tasks – Intercultural activities through game, music, presentation, discussion and else. – Motivating the students actively using their English through interactive learning with volunteers. – Working together with teachers to collaborate in class activities. – Adapting Indonesian life and culture.
The volunteer will share his/her room and the other facilities with other host family members. Facilities are simple and Indonesian style (no hot water, no washing machine). Food is provided by a local host family.
The volunteer is encouraged to be creative, flexible, patient and independent. The volunteer is also very welcome to create new idea and method to teach the children especially English such as bringing English book on how to teach. Other supporting material such as creativities book and pictures will also be helpful. The volunteermust adapt with the boarding culture such as girls required to wear long sleeves, trousers or long skirt and covered their hair with veil. These placements are not available in June, July, September and December.
