Brief description and main aims To provide education To provide shelter, food, medical, clothing To show love and care for street children, orphans and vulnerable and needy children in the slums and marginalized areas. Main Activities Education: ABC Children’s Aid Kenya runs a primary and secondary school. The schools cover children from the Eastland slums of Nairobi County. Talent nurturing: Besides education, ABC nurtures the talents of children by engaging them in various co-curriculum activities. Some of the co-curriculum activities include: Music, poetry, bead work, drawing, sports and recreation. Guidance and counselling: The councillor, social workers and other staff members carry out guidance and counselling for an individual child, groups of children and/or an open forum. Community development and social justice: The children from the slums and marginalised areas are the future leaders through the education they are receiving. ABC has been involved in having community meetings where they have advocated for human justices and condemned injustices. Volunteer tasks Record Keeping Guidance and counselling Home visitation Sponsorship programme activities like -Record Keeping -Printing -Scanning the children’s pictures and gift letters to be sent to their sponsors via drop box -Editing children’s Thank You letters to their sponsors Sports and recreation, clubs Advocating for children’s rights Community development


Host Family


It covers the following areas: Balozi and Kariobangi. These are about 40 minutes away from the city centre. Balozi and Kariobangi are located in the East lands area of Nairobi. Low to middle income earners reside in these areas. The weather is fairly warm.

The ICYE programme started in Kenya in 1989. ICYE Kenya is a registered NGO. It is composed of returnees, volunteers and a two-staff team working at the national office, located in Nairobi.

Voluntary service projects include assisting teachers in rural schools, working with the disabled, with street children, in the health service, on farms and in orphanages. Participants with professional skills like psychology, carpentry, typing, nursing, agriculture or languages might have access to other types of work placements.
