Aldea S.O.S. is a non-profit NGO that has existed since 1949. It works in in 132 countries, focusing on providing children with their necessities and on the protection of their rights. This project gives the children a permanent home and a stable environment, helping them to create and build their own future and helping them become involved in the development of their communities. The volunteer will assist the teachers working on the children’s rehabilitation and education process. In the centre the children are divided into different groups, depending on their age. In each group there are two or three assistants who work in physical therapy, according to the needs of each child. Some of the older children do educational activities like drawing or painting, recognising animals, numbers and colours. They also learn how to count, read and write simple words. The volunteer will work in various classrooms, depending on where they are needed. Sporting activities for children with or without disabilities; Physical therapy and integrative rehab for disabled people ; Teaching support ; Classes in guitar, music, singing, theatre, painting, etc ; Gardening ; Social work ; Psychology ; General support in the village. Work-hours: From Tuesday to Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The volunteer is not required to have specific knowledge or previous experience in the area. ICYE was founded in Mexico in 1967. Servicio Internacional para el Intercambio Juvenil – SIIJUVE became member of the ICYE Federation in 1986. The National Committee is made up of co-workers (many former exchangees), host families and programme participants. There are five regional groups in Tuxtla Gutierrez Chiapas, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Puebla and Toluca, co-ordinated by the national office, located in Puebla.

There is a wide range of projects – from kindergartens; work with disabled, street children, to ecological projects in urban and rural areas, and rural development projects, archaeology. Practical training experiences in arts, crafts, dance, and ceramics. Attendance of university courses is possible, at participant's own expenses.
