The project collaborate with three orphanages. They are Brayat Pinuji Orphanage, Pati orphanage and Christhoperus Orphanage. Brayat Pinuji and Christhoperus orphanage female orphanage which are supported by the church community. The project are hosted several children from different background and area of Indonesia. Normally they are brought to orphanage by community or their own parents. Living harmony inside and outside of orphanage is what the orphanage emphasizes. The children are given responsibility into daily task from morning until evening, no matter the ages. They need to taking care of their friends as well as the orphanage. The orphanage educates them to be an independent through giving them on entrepreneur skills and an opportunity to practice their skills. Nevertheless, formal education is the most important for all of them. They pray, play, learn, laugh, and support each other. The projects concern of the fate of children who desperately needs assistance personal care, nutrition and adequate education.. Volunteers will be assisting and supervising the children. They will work in the morning and late afternoon. The morning activities, volunteer will help care takers in making bed, dressing the children, prepare breakfast and prepare them before going to school. After the children taking nap, volunteer will help care takers to conduct several activity for the children such as cleaning the orphanage, accompany them for doing laundry and ironing, conduct some game, taking them to play outside with the neighbor. In the evening, volunteer will help in making homework and study the lesson.
The volunteer will stay at dormitory of orphanage. Three main meals a day will be provided by the host family – simple basic Indonesian food, rice, tapioca/cassava, fish, vegetables, etc.
The volunteer should be open-minded; tolerant; creative; flexible; patient; respect the local customs and local’s rule; sharing ; special drive for adolescent and youngsters; willing to accept basic living condition in the project site; and be confidence. The volunteer is also very welcome to create new idea and method to teach the children especially English such as bringing English book on how to teach. Other supporting material such as creativities book and pictures will also be helpful. What to bring: Light clothes, not too revealing. These are not appropriate while working in the school with children and for the small villages you will be visiting. For the school shirt and trousers are a must. Shoulders should be covered all the times. Shorts that are cut at the knee are acceptable only in the villages but not in schools/formal occasion as well shoes are always needed. Some games Mosquito repellant and a mosquito net – which can also be bought in Indonesia for 5 –10 Euros. Hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Toiletries and towel. Medicines as you think necessary. Spending money for personal items. Optional (but welcome): Pictures of your family, friends and country to share with fellow volunteers and Indonesian people. Cooking recipes, some cooking material and other things to share your culture through food and drinks. Musical instruments and some traditional games from your country. Suggestion goods to bring along for locals: School stationeries (books, pencils, erasers etc) or toys as gifts for students Books with pictures that can be donated for the library.
