The Hippotherapy Centre is a department of the Rehabilitation, Education and Welfare Centre „Helenow” – a complex of institutions providing care to children and youth with physical and learning disabilities. It was created in 2003 to enrich treatment offer of the Helenow Centre and provide another kind of therapy. Main Activities The Hippotherapy Centre provides hippotherapy (horse therapy) opportunities on a daily basis to children and youth under care of the Helenow Centre, runs a mini zoo and occasionally organises special events for children and youth. Volunteer tasks The volunteer will be supporting therapists and assistants in preparation to and conducting hippotherapy activities. The work will include cleaning horses, saddling horses, longeing during the activities, helping therapists in running exercises, dressing and undressing children.
The volunteer will stay in a shared room in a staff hotel on the premises of CREiO “Helenow”. Meals provided by host organization in the canteen of CREiO “Helenow” for the whole period of the service.
Warsaw – Wawer district. CREiO „Helenow” is situated in Miedzylesie, which is a quiet residential area in the suburbs of Warsaw.
We expect reliable and mature volunteers with a big dose of empathy and understanding for different needs. The volunteers should present real interest in work with disabled children and youth and be ready and able to work outside in various weather conditions as well as work with horses. Communicative level of English is necessary to communicate with the staff of the Centre. The work takes place outside no matter the weather conditions including rain, snow and frost. The volunteer is supposed to have his/her own working clothes suitable for the season.
