Brief description and main aims Jericho Orphanage Home started by accommodating seven children, but over the years the number of children increased, and now Jericho Orphanage Home caters for over 50 children, both girls and boys. The children are between one and 15 years old. The children are mainly from every corner at Arusha town in some districts of our country. The home offers the only real hope for some of Tanzanians most damaged children. This unique residence provides the children with a warm homely accepting environment and education to help the children come to terms with their experiences. Main Activities Mission: To empower children in need to become productive members of society through rehabilitation, education and self-reliance skill to fulfil their life future dreams. Vision: Jericho orphanage home is aiming to improve the standard living of the orphans children around the community by planning on the utilization of the available resources and guiding on the implementation of the plans to achieve the best social services and Act as a catalyst for holistic development &facilitate volunteers to save orphans children from poor social services such as education, health, water and other infrastructures Value: For children are a heritage from the Lord and they deserve the best. Volunteer tasks – Preparing food for the children and helping them eat. – General cleaning, washing dishes, etc. – Helping the permanent staff care for the children – Occasionally taking the children to the hospital for immunization, treatment ect. – Bathing the children and washing their clothes – Teaching English, arithmetic and sports to the children – Organization and facilitating games and plays for the children – Helping some of the children learn to read and write – Getting involved in drawing and painting or even music if you have skills in that area – Working with the babies – helping to change them, and bath them! – Volunteer innovation is acceptable! – Volunteer with us you can changes somebody life;
The accommodation is in host family, single and share rooms self-contained with shower, washing room are available. Meals are provided three times a day.
Jericho Orphanage Home is located in Arusha Karatu, close to Ngorongoro Crater (african Eden) and Serengeti National Park.
The volunteer can bring: clothing, stationeries, toys, books, used computers, shoes, games, pencils, and arts and sports supplies.
UVIKIUTA is an independent non-governmental organization that works with youth. It was created in 1983 following a proposal in which the Government of Tanzania invited unemployed youth to group together in order to receive assistance. Uvikiuta's projects focus on income generation, employment, and nutrition.
United Planet Tanzania (UPTZ) became a partner of ICYE in 2009. As a local, Tanzania-based non-profit organization, UPTZ is dedicated to bridging the cultural gap between Tanzania and other countries. Through volunteer, community-based assistance, cultural exchange visits, and homestays with local families, greater cross-cultural understanding and long-lasting impact within communities is fostered.
