Medico-psycho pedagogic institute l’ENVOL (L’Institut Médico-Psycho-Pédagogique l’ENVOL) is in line with educational programme and pre-professional training of mentally handicapped children of Togo initiated by the Consortium of churches of Togo in order to find answer to the problem of socio-educative and professional and integration of people who are mentally handicapped. Main Activities The project offers several and varied activities to volunteers who provide much support to teachers who, owing to a lot of tasks, work 8 hours during 5 days; from Monday to Friday. Volunteer tasks From Monday to Friday, the learners of institute divided into groups attend the courses in plastic art, coloring, painting, graphics, self-sufficiency and in do-it- yourself. Here, the volunteers have to help the educators at each level to make practice and assimilate the teachings delivered, even replace them in the subgroups for the purpose of keeping the handicapped (working). At specialized activities such as psychomotricity, the volunteer supports the educators in the subjects such as lateral lesson, spatial structure, body image, temporal orientation… The project uses French or speaks French during school section. It would be much appreciated or a plus for volunteers who speaks French.
ENVOL Atakpamé is located in the district of Nyekonakpoein the compound of Evangelical Presbyterian primary school on the street of Niort. The city Atakpame is the chief town of PLATEAUX region of 168 km from Lomé and 100 km from Kpalimé. It is an old city that served as refuge town. Atakpame is located between Akposso and Mono and surrounded with seven (7) hills that give it nice scenery. At 500 m of altitude, it was chosen by Germans as regional centre during colonial time. It has a mountainous climate with temperature that varies between 19 degrees and 35 degrees. Its population is made up of patrilenear societies characterized by the recognition of the authority of the elder. Atakpame has always been a place of commercial exchanges between the people of coastal regions of “Golfe du Benin” and those of the island.
The volunteer should be able to communicate in French and should be motivated to work with children, be able to work independent and to bring enthusiasm and motivation for the project. The volunteer should be able to adopt, initiate and innovate during his service in the project. Creativity, being spontaneous, or to have a musical sense is more than welcome. The volunteer should be matured and be ready to work. Above all the volunteer should have patience or be willing to be patient during his or her stay.
Campagne des Hommes (CdH) is a legally registered, non-profit organisation, founded by a group of young Togolese volunteers in 1994. Full fledged activities started in 1998. Its head office is in Kpalimé and consists of three full time staff. Its activities are mainly carried out in Kpalimé and surroundings, and in the town of Aktapamé.
Besides its local development activities, i.e. micro credit and saving bank for people of scarce resources, CdH offers long and short-term voluntary service placements in a crèche for young children, schools for deaf and blind people, education for mentally challenged youth, and an out-of-school project.
