TRAVAIL

The service of integrated Education of sensorial deficient (Le Service d’Education Intégrée des Déficients Sensoriels) is initiated to solve the problem of socio educative integration of children stricken by sensorial incapacity (sight, learning) Main Activities The main activities of this project are: provide educational and practical support to sensorial deficient children in educative domain. Rehabilitation through vocational training for those who suffer from sensorial deficiency during their profession. support the integration of children in classes through institutional education. Volunteer tasks Volunteers’ rolesare to help the educators, the teachers or represent them in diverse activities such as reexplanation and rehearsal courses. They will help the teachers in order to make students assimilate the courses given to them. Volunteers will particularly take care of the students because they have difficulty in keeping lessons, they will also follow them in classes in order to spell the written words to them. From Monday to Friday, volunteers will help transcribe the examination papers, didactic documents, the matrix in Braille; they will rehear and explain the lessons that the disabled have received together with their valid friends. Volunteers take an active part in pedagogic supervision which is daily done by the teachers.

LOGEMENT &NOURRITURE

The volunteer will be living with a host family that will provide board and lodging.

SITUATION

“Le Service d’Education Intégrée des Déficients Sensoriels” is located in Kpalime at Kpegolonou section along MISSAHOE road.

BESOIN SPéCIAL

In order to be efficient, the volunteer should be patient and less impulsive. Having some basic knowledge about pedagogy and psychology of the handicapped in general and sensorial ones in particular would be a fundamental advantage for the volunteer. He will be ease at his work if he has listening mind and patience. The volunteer who has knowledge in English, French, German, physics, mathematics, would be needed since he will rehearse the handicapped in the courses in order to allow them to compensate for their sensorial shortage and face the constraints connected to their situation of handicap. The knowledge of particular language of the community is not compulsory since the courses are delivered for the most part in French, in English and in German. Thus, the volunteer benefits from French course at the head office of the NGO “CAMPAGNE DES HOMMES” before being initiated by the teachers in pedagogic techniques of handicapped persons and Braille writing. The project does not require a given age or a particular sex on behalf of volunteers. The sensorial handicapped students, especially the blind have no preference to sex and even they hardly appreciate age unless they reach the level of advanced knowledge of understanding things without seeing the attitudes of people. Nevertheless, volunteers of 17 years old and more are well recommended because of the maturity of their mind.

Campagne des Hommes (CdH) is a legally registered, non-profit organisation, founded by a group of young Togolese volunteers in 1994. Full fledged activities started in 1998. Its head office is in Kpalimé and consists of three full time staff. Its activities are mainly carried out in Kpalimé and surroundings, and in the town of Aktapamé.

Programme
Besides its local development activities, i.e. micro credit and saving bank for people of scarce resources, CdH offers long and short-term voluntary service placements in a crèche for young children, schools for deaf and blind people, education for mentally challenged youth, and an out-of-school project.
