Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN)VIN is one of the few Nepali run organizations currently operating in Nepal whose missionserves to directly empower marginalized people and promote a greater sense of voluteering.Our projects operate year round and international volunteers can feel satisfied by contributingto an organization that is working to improve the quality of life of the Nepali peopleaeuro)with anemphasis on improving education for marginalized groups such as women and children.
Living and working on a traditional farm in Nepal will no doubt be a getaway for those of you that feel a therapeutic need of getting closer to nature; feel the fresh earth in your hands and under your bare feet. Work the land the way our forefathers had, all on a traditional Nepalese farm. Tend and care for the ani- mals on the farm. The rewarding work, the rural and exotic beauty of Nepal coupled with a warm and welcoming tradition-bound community will make this project worth your while. You will be placed with a Nepalese family.UO Assess impact of climate change on the environment.UO Carry out research using various tools visiting different parts of Nepal.UO Raise awareness on the impact of climate change and on mitigating factors .UO Write a report with climate strategies for local jurisdictions.
Nepali Standard at host family in the working community
Jitpur community of Kathmandu District, which is only about 11 km away from main ring road to Balaju, Kathmandu. Nuakot and Okhaldhunga, a beautiful and hilly district, is located in Everest Region of Nepal. It has limited developmental activities and facilities. From Kathmandu, the shortest bus route is about 250 km which is rough and takes one day to reach there.
2005 by a diverse group drawn from development workers, educationalists, social activists and other
VINâ€™s mission is to empower marginalised communities, with a focus on women and children,
through enhanced educational programs and community training to promote equality, economic
well-being and basic human rights.
Community Focused Programmes
VIN has a main community based pilot project in Jitpur, a rural community 11km from Kathmandu city.
The area was chosen because of its geographical location, lack of development agencies, people
interest, and its development needs. VIN has established 4 key programmes in Jitpur:
ï‚· Womenâ€™s Empowerment
ï‚· Childrenâ€™s Development
ï‚· Youth Development
ï‚· Community Health
The organizationâ€™s objective is for these programmes to be run by the Jitpur community (independently of
VIN) by 2012. Our community volunteering projects are based on around above 4 major programmes.
Out of Community Support Programmes
VIN runs a number of other volunteer placement programmes not directly related to the Jitpur community
but indirectly these programmes still contribute to our main programs. The programmes include:
ï‚· Teaching English at Buddhist monasteries / nunneries
ï‚· International journalism
ï‚· Environment, conservation and agro forestry
ï‚· Orphanage support
ï‚· Working with disable people (e.g., deaf, elderly)
