Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN)
VIN s Editor/Writer project is fit for volunteers or interns who would like to be a part of the empowerment cause in Nepal but would rather use their organizational and language proficiency skills within the VIN office headquarters than be out in the rural areas of Nepal. This opportunity can be seen as good work experience with altruistic intentions for the less fortunate of Nepal. You will be an integral part of the workings of the office.Your Role-Write research based articles on VIN community projects.-Correct/Rewrite website content for VIN.-Compose VIN newsletters that include updates on VIN project accomplishments and activities.-Track volunteer/intern placements on spreadsheets, handle outgoing emails and more.
Nepali Standard at host family in the working community
Jitpur community of Kathmandu District, which is only about 11 km away from main ring road to Balaju, Kathmandu. Nuwakot and Okhaldhunga, a beautiful and hilly district, is located in Everest Region of Nepal. It has limited developmental activities and facilities. From Kathmandu, the shortest bus route is about 250 km which is rough and takes one day to reach there.

Community Focused Programmes
VIN has a main community based pilot project in Jitpur, a rural community 11km from Kathmandu city.
The area was chosen because of its geographical location, lack of development agencies, people
interest, and its development needs. VIN has established 4 key programmes in Jitpur:

ï‚· Childrenâ€™s Development
ï‚· Youth Development
ï‚· Community Health
The organizationâ€™s objective is for these programmes to be run by the Jitpur community (independently of
VIN) by 2012. Our community volunteering projects are based on around above 4 major programmes.
Out of Community Support Programmes
VIN runs a number of other volunteer placement programmes not directly related to the Jitpur community
but indirectly these programmes still contribute to our main programs. The programmes include:
ï‚· Teaching English at Buddhist monasteries / nunneries
ï‚· International journalism
ï‚· Environment, conservation and agro forestry
ï‚· Orphanage support
ï‚· Working with disable people (e.g., deaf, elderly)
