If you are planning a gap year or career break and contemplating a job in journalism or print media, Journalism Abroad Nepal with VIN can set you on the right track. This is a great way to enhance your resume and help you to stand out from the crowd. Whether you are currently studying journalism or are considering it in college, Journalism Abroad with VIN will give you first hand international journalism experience.Your Possible Role-Gain working knowledge of how a national media functions.-Write articles for several national publications that have a partnership with VIN [Kathmandu Post newspaper, Spotlight magazine, Himal Media House etc.-Work in other forms of media of your choosing.
Nepali Standard at host family in the working community
Jitpur community of Kathmandu District, which is only about 11 km away from main ring road to Balaju, Kathmandu. Nuwakot and Okhaldhunga, a beautiful and hilly district, is located in Everest Region of Nepal. It has limited developmental activities and facilities. From Kathmandu, the shortest bus route is about 250 km which is rough and takes one day to reach there.
2005 by a diverse group drawn from development workers, educationalists, social activists and other
VINâ€™s mission is to empower marginalised communities, with a focus on women and children,
through enhanced educational programs and community training to promote equality, economic
well-being and basic human rights.
Community Focused Programmes
VIN has a main community based pilot project in Jitpur, a rural community 11km from Kathmandu city.
The area was chosen because of its geographical location, lack of development agencies, people
interest, and its development needs. VIN has established 4 key programmes in Jitpur:
ï‚· Womenâ€™s Empowerment
ï‚· Childrenâ€™s Development
ï‚· Youth Development
ï‚· Community Health
The organizationâ€™s objective is for these programmes to be run by the Jitpur community (independently of
VIN) by 2012. Our community volunteering projects are based on around above 4 major programmes.
Out of Community Support Programmes
VIN runs a number of other volunteer placement programmes not directly related to the Jitpur community
but indirectly these programmes still contribute to our main programs. The programmes include:
ï‚· Teaching English at Buddhist monasteries / nunneries
ï‚· International journalism
ï‚· Environment, conservation and agro forestry
ï‚· Orphanage support
ï‚· Working with disable people (e.g., deaf, elderly)
