VIN’s summer volunteer program is a program that combines Nepali culture, trekking and adventure, volunteer work for the good of the locals, and shopping in authentic Nepal, all together in a matter of weeks. VIN aims to deliver the experience of a lifetime to foreigners, and believes that the itinerary put together will successfully integrate the two concepts of work and explore Himalayas.
You as a volunteer will be given a proper orientation on how to handle yourself in Nepal, and then after this, you will be placed in the Nepali village, with a Nepali family, in a home-stay set up, where you will be able to make visits to the local schools or orphanages and teach English. You may also work with women empowerment groups or with children’s clubs and early childhood development centers (ECD) After this “volunteering” period, you will be led on a trekking – either Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Base Camp. Lastly, before you leave Nepal, you will be given some time to explore the city of Kathmandu, shop around for souvenirs, and enjoy the nightlife at various tourist spots, the largest one being Thamel. 3 weeks of volunteering and 2 weeks of trekking.

VIN’s mission is to empower marginalised communities, with a focus on women and children,
through enhanced educational programs and community training to promote equality, economic
well-being and basic human rights.
Community Focused Programmes
VIN has a main community based pilot project in Jitpur, a rural community 11km from Kathmandu city.
The area was chosen because of its geographical location, lack of development agencies, people
interest, and its development needs. VIN has established 4 key programmes in Jitpur:
 Women’s Empowerment
 Children’s Development
ï‚· Youth Development
ï‚· Community Health
The organization’s objective is for these programmes to be run by the Jitpur community (independently of
VIN) by 2012. Our community volunteering projects are based on around above 4 major programmes.
Out of Community Support Programmes
VIN runs a number of other volunteer placement programmes not directly related to the Jitpur community
but indirectly these programmes still contribute to our main programs. The programmes include:
ï‚· Teaching English at Buddhist monasteries / nunneries
ï‚· International journalism
ï‚· Environment, conservation and agro forestry
ï‚· Orphanage support
ï‚· Working with disable people (e.g., deaf, elderly)
