ICYE Philippines. Betty Bantug- Benitez was forever teeming with bright, benevolent and beautiful projects for our Filipino children specifically in Negros Occidental Province. She worked hard for the fulfilment of these plans up to her last breath in this world. Inspired by her unwavering commitment to labour of love for the children of today and tomorrow, the Foundation joins Betty in making her bright, benevolent and beautiful dreams, a reality. Two decades ago, these women of commitment were honoured to the creation of the Betty Bantug Benitez Foundation, barely three months following her passing in June 1982. Bearing her full name, foundation aimed to continue her work, reflecting her compassion and love, especially for children. It´s main aim is Tto provide the people programs and services that will redound to a wholistic individual human development with emphasis on nurturing children and young Filipinos.
Main Activities: Provide basic computer training for all ages, Medical mission at schools in 5 cities including Victorias City, Medical and financial assistance for people in need, Feeding program at 5 schools every day, Sport and Art events once a year. Volunteer tasks: Assist the Foundation’s local partner projects with Public Day Care Centers, Public Elementary and High Schools, Orphanage and other NGOs and Private Organizations, Assist the staff in the development of promotional materials/reports eg. news/magazines, audio &video presentations, website and other online social media, etc., Assist other related community development programs.
The volunteer will live with a host family that will provide lodge and board.
Victorias City is a fourth class city in the province of Negros Occidental, Philippines. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 88,299 people. Considered as the sugar capital of Negros Occidental, Victorias can be reached in 40 to 45 minutes from Bacolod City either by private car or public utility vehicles plying the northern Negros. Negros Occidental, it can be found near the central part of the country. It is one of the five provinces that compose Western Visayas or Region VI. It is located in the north-western portion of Negros Island, the fourth biggest island in the Philippine archipelago.
Volunteer requirements / Skills Have a bigger heart for the disadvantaged, less privileged. Flexible, open minded and able to adopt local life situations. Independent and can handle limited supervision. Understand the very limited physical presence or inability of Receiving Organization during monitoring &or evaluation. Commitment to regular updates/reporting/monitoring through mobile, online communication. Creative, Innovative, Adventurous and fun loving. Sociable and Team player. Competent and with Sense of Community. Commitment to service. Will commit fulltime work while in country.
The Global Initiative for Exchange and Development Inc. (GIED) was established in 2015 with the primary aim to promote various meaningful collaborations in building local communities and empowering people to be partners in nation building. New breed but experienced social development professionals actively involved in different social development efforts in the Philippines and abroad conceptualized GIED. These social development professionals are armed with the professional background and passion to offer quality services to more communities in the country. Together, they pool more than a decade of experience in community development initiatives focusing on the most vulnerable sectors, children, youth, women, indigenous people, persons with disabilities among others. As a non-government and non-profit organization in the Philippines, GIED also seeks to establish its own relevance as it responds to the Philippinesâ€™ important national social policy frameworks and plans for sustainable human development. It is with this mindset that GIEDâ€™s advocacy on participation, empowerment, and development are emphasized to realize its vision on community development and global citizenship work. GIED aims to empower people-to-people connectivity through cross-cultural interaction and immersion within and across nations, international voluntary service and dynamic cooperation. It primarily focus its programs and services on social issues like access to education, health services, environmental sustainability, employment and livelihood opportunities as well as social exclusion. It also offers to serve the general public, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender.
GIED is an associate member of Network for Voluntary Development in Asia (NVDA), an official partner of the International Cultural Youth Exchange Federation (ICYE) and guest organization with Alliance of European Service Organizations. It is also a registered Youth Serving Organization of the National Youth Commission and a Resource Agency under the Department of Social Welfare and Development of the Philippine Government.
