Project description: The Community Leadership Program is a an Initiative that is expected to offer community members and mostly young men and young women unique opportunity to develop the full potential and transform promising community members into its next generation of ethical, engaged and empowering leaders. This project focuses on developing the talents and potential leadership skills of its participants in the context of their individual environment as well the community as a whole. Project activities: Participants of the project will join the selected members of the community to participate in following activities/ Components of the project. ? Workshops: The workshops offer exciting new insights into leadership principles and practices will be presented by experienced leaders from various sectors that are skilled at translating principles and concepts into practical ideas and techniques. You will be exposed to cutting edge research into leadership, as well as into brain functioning and how leaders can best support and encourage your community, and will leave the workshops with the skills to implement improvements in your own leadership practice. Topics will be selected based on the realities of the local community and the foreign participants. ? Workplace Project/Educational tour: Participants of the project will have an opportunity to join the local community members (Those in the program) on their daily community work and share some practical realities. This will be in the sectors of local Government Management, Local community Schools, Businesses, Social and cultural activities. This activity will provide and give new and emerging leaders the opportunity to embed their learning and put their new knowledge into practice. ? Community Service (Hands-on activities): Participants will work with their host families to develop demo sites to be used for garbage separation and composting in the eco village. This will include provision of garbage separation bins, labelling, and introduction of composting sites. Depending on the time, these activities will be expanded to various public places in the community such as schools, Health centres etc. Participants are expected to plan symbolic leadership trees in the community as well.


Accommodation: Participants will be accommodated at the local host families in the community. There will be common place (Educational tent) where the team will be gathering for meetings and other common activities. Houses are located very close to each other and participants will be able to see each team member frequently. Food: Food will be provided at the host families. In some few occasions participants and host families members will be having jointly potluck dinners. Participants with special dietary requirements should inform us well in advance. Participants are expected to help in preparation of the meals and cleaning with the support of the host family members.


Location of the Project: The Project will be hosted in Chamazi community. It is located in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam about 35km south of the city Centre. It has a beautiful landscape and natural attractions where some wild animals (Monkeys, rabbits, birds, insects etc.) are still visible. It is accessible by public and private transport from the city Centre. Convenient shops are available and there is signal for mobile phones where internet can be accessible as well. Free time activities: The project is organized in a way that provides an opportunity for participants to utilize their free time by enjoying what the region offers in terms of cultural and natural attractions. The first week-end Participants will have an opportunity to explore Dar es Salaam historical, natural and cultural sites. These include museums, local markets and beach. The second week-end we will have an opportunity to enjoy wildlife safari (Mikumi National Park) and cultural tour at the Maasai village.


Special Requirements: No special or particular expertise/skills required; however a potential Participant for this project should be open minded, interested in other cultures, eager to learn and share. Language: The official languages of this project are English and Kiswahili. You do not have to be fluent. Terminal: Participants of this project will be picked up at Julius Nyerere International Airport (Dar es Salaam) or any of the Bus or Railway stations in Dar es Salaam. Extra Fee: Participation fee of €250 or equivalent Tanzanian shillings to be paid on arrival day. Participation fee does not cover the cost of medical/health services, all types of insurances, cost of relevant Visas or permits, airport drop off on departure date, pocket money, free/leisure activities and other personal expenses. However; participation fee does cover the cost of airport pickups on arrival, orientation on arrival, food and accommodation during the program and general running cost of the project.
