Project description In a world where nations and peoples are ever more dependent upon on another to supply goods and services, solve political disputes, and ensure international security, understanding other languages &Culture is paramount. Lack of intercultural sensitivity can lead to mistrust and misunderstandings, to an inability to cooperate, negotiate, and compromise, and perhaps even to military confrontation. A person competent in other languages can bridge the gap between cultures, contribute to international diplomacy, promote national security and world peace, and successfully engage in international trade. In recognition of this reality, UVIKIUTA Youth center has developed foreign Language program with the aim of providing learning opportunity to economically disadvantaged members of the community to access free Basic French and Spanish language courses to enable them to access various business, education and employment opportunities. Project activities Volunteers will join the Community Language classes at Youth center where various sessions will be running for maximum 2 hours each. The main tasks will be delivering lessons to community classes with a focus on practical use of French or Spanish Languages. Other tasks will be testing and grading students and find creative means to encourage learners to practice their reading, writing and speaking French or Spanish skills through group settings and one- to one exercise.
Food To be provided for free at the host family and at the project. Food will not be available outside designated project location. Accommodation Volunteers will be accommodated at the local host family in the community. Staying with a host family is a great way to learn and understanding the culture. The host family will be able to introduce volunteers to the nuances of life and the food and culture. Volunteers are expected to be part of the family and not guest!
The Project will be hosted in Vigoa community located in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam about 30km from Dar es Salaam city center. It has a beautiful landscape and natural attractions where some wild animals (Monkeys, rabbits and birds) are still visible. It is accessible by public and private transport. Convenient shops are available and there is signal for mobile phones where internet can be accessible as well. — Free time activities : Weekends will be free for volunteers to spend time with their host families. However there is also a possibilities to visit places like Zanzibar and Bagamoyo historical towns, Wildlife safari), cultural and eco-tourism activities (We can provide some tips and price quotes if needed). — Arrival and Terminal : Volunteers will be picked up at Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) on or before the date provided by the volunteer. Arrival information should be provided at least seven days before the project start. Arrival/Starting date of the project is Last Thursdays of each Month. Last day should be Saturday of the last week. If you wish to arrive earlier or stay longer due to the flight arrangements you should inform us in advance and each extra day will attract a little cost of €20 (Euro) to cover the cost of accommodation and meals. Maximum two days.
Commitment to treating learner with respect, Non-judgemental approach that values different cultures, Good English language skills, Strong inter-personal skills, Interest in people and their stories, open minded, flexible and ability to work under less supervision. – Language : The official working Language will be English. However you should have interest to learn the local Language (Kiswahili). Optional language classes will be provided. — Extra Fee: Non-refundable monthly participation fee of €300 or equivalent Tanzanian shillings are expected to be paid on arrival day at once. Participation fee does not cover the cost of medical/health services, all types of insurances, cost of relevant Visas or permits, airport drop off on departure date, pocket money, free/leisure activities and other personal expenses. However; participation fee does cover the cost of airport pickups on arrival, orientation on arrival, transport to go to the project related activities, food and accommodation during the program and general running cost of the project.
