With English being such an important language for communication nowadays, it is beneficial to have a basic understanding even at a young age, plus it can be easier to learn a language while you are still young! — In this program you will be working in kindergartens around Rusape and assisting local teachers with class management. You can expect tasks such as arranging different activities following a curriculum such as basic English teaching, but you may also have the opportunity to assist with other subjects such as mathematics, music, games, writing, drawing, and physical education. A great benefit of this program it that it gives a good opportunity to local kids to learn from and interact with a foreigner who is able to converse in basic English. You never know, the support you provide with basic English teaching may allow local children to broaden their future views and possibilities! — Aims &Objectives : Improve the village children’s English and widen their cultural interactions, Give you practical experience in teaching and working with children Assist the program staff with extra hands, Learn about the local Zimbabwean culture through interaction with the staff and children. — Schedule : You can expect to work for 4-5 hours a day. A typical day would look like: Monday to Friday, Breakfast, Arrange activities at kindergarten, Lunch, Arrange activities in kindergarten/ preparation for following day activities, Evaluation, Dinner. — ***This program is replaced by holiday programs during school breaks*** ***Schedule may be adjusted due to weather and/or local conditions***


Standard Accommodation : You will be staying in our program centre which accommodates around 20 people. All participants are expected to be environmentally aware and to use all resources with restraint, especially water, paper and electricity. Your rooms will be cleaned daily by staff but please try to clean up after yourself and help play your part to keep the accommodation neat and organized. Food arrangements: Meals are basic and healthy, inspired by the local cuisine consists of staples such as rice, cornmeal for preparing ‘sadza’ or ‘bota’ (porridge), spinach, chomolia, spring greens, beans, chicken, goat, mutton, and beef. Facilities: Since our center is located just 30 minutes out of Rusape, there are many restaurants, ATMs, shopping malls and services that you can easily access at the main township in your free time. Activities &Events: No scheduled activities outside of the program schedule yet for this location. Sights &Surroundings : Some places you may want to visit in your spare time: Victoria Falls. Otherwise known as Uka uka ähläm “the Smoke that Thunders”, Victoria Falls is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. It is the largest waterfall in the world having a continuous sheet of falling water spanning 1,700 meters across and 108 meters down. The notorious Devil’s Pool is found here but please be warned that, whilst beautiful, this location can be dangerous if you are not careful, so visit at your own risk. National Parks. Zimbabwe is known for its numerous national parks scattered around the country, some of the more well known ones being Matobo, Mana Pool, and Hwange National Parks. These parks give you an opportunity to see native wildlife including giraffes and rhinos, visit sites of ancient paintings, and take in the beautiful natural landscape dotted with unique rock formations.


You will be staying on the outskirts of Rusape. Specifically, in Cheneke Village, Tandi located in the Manicaland province. Being only 30 minutes away from downtown Rusape, you will have access to local shops and other things that you may visit in your spare time. You may also take the opportunity to visit historic and natural sites such as Victoria Falls and surrounding reserves around the country.


Minimum English level: Intermediate. Additional equipment Modest clothing – covering the knees and shoulder. All programmes of GREEN LION ZIMBABWE start with mandatory culture week (175 €). — School Holidays: Teaching programs are still available during the school holidays outlined below, but in the form of a holiday program outside the normal school system in the community/village. — Also please note that these dates may be not be exact due to local conditions : First term from beginning of April to beginning of May for 1 month, Second term from beginning of August to beginning of September for 1 month, Third term from beginning of December to mid January for around 1.5 months.
