BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOR EMUHAYA DISTRICT Emuhaya district which has been curved off Vihiga district of Western Province covers an area of 173.2 Sq. Km. The district currently consists of one political constituency, Emuhaya constituency. The current Member of Parliament is Dr. Wilbur K. Ottichilo It is divided into two divisions of Luanda and Emuhaya and eight administrative locations namely; South Bunyore, South-West Bunyore, West Bunyore, Central Bunyore, North Bunyore, North-East Bunyore, East Bunyore and Wekhomo The people of Emuhaya were among the first to be exposed to education during the missionary activities in Kenya when the first mission station was established at Kima (In 1905). Since then, Emuhaya has over 115 pre-primary schools, 92 primary schools and 26 secondary schools. Volunteer tasks • Teaching • Physical education and life skills program • Develop child sponsorship program • Design project proposals for construction of School classrooms • Submit project report to KVDA


• Home stay and the volunteer is entitled to private room but will share other amenities and meals with the host family. It is convenient for the volunteer to carry sleeping bag, mat and personal effects. KVDA has a memorandum of understanding with the host project regarding the project costs with appropriate procedures, checks and balances.

PROJECT START DATES • It is recommended that volunteers applying to join this project should be aware that school terms in Kenya start at the beginning of the following months January, May and September 2017 • Schools in Kenya have three holiday seasons; April, August, November and December annually • This means the volunteers wishing to participate in this project should arrive in Kenya at the start of January, towards the end of April and towards the end of August 2017 — Financial contribution : The project participation fee is Euro 200 per month (for more than 1 month stay). Fee is Euro 300 for volunteers staying one month only.
