Tytuvenai Regional Park was founded in 1992 in order to preserve the picturesque landscape of hills, marshes and lakes, the historical and urban monuments of Siluva and Tytuvenai, as well as the unique nature and cultural heritage. The territory of Regional Park is spread out at the intersection of Kelme, Raseiniai and RadviliSkis districts. In year 2015 EVS volunteers of Regional Park organized a work camp, where 15 volunteers lived, worked and had some leisure time in Tytuvenai. Their main task was reed cutting. Reeds are a huge problem in our lakes, because their fast expansion is making lakes to grow older very fast. In year 2016 international work camp was organized, where 7 volunteers from various countries lived and worked in Siluva and Tytuvenai. They were building a little stone wall and fixing a wooden walking path near the lake. But not only that – they had some nice excursions and tried out the Lithuanian sauna.
This year during the camp we’ll have several tasks. During the first week volunteers will live in Siluva pilgrim center and work in its surroundings, second week they’ll live in Tytuvenai regional park visitor center and work there. Their tasks may include: • Cleaning of the Forest museum; • Renowation of the traditional old wooden fence in Tytuvenai; • Tidying up the volleyball site in a beach; • Dismantling of a fence near the beach ; • Building of a woodshed. Bringing some firewood; • Cleaning of a „Churchbell“ swamp; • Cleaning of an old cemetery; • Cleaning of a territory near the lake Gilius; • Other similar activities.
During the first week volunteers will live in Siluva pilgrim center (they’ll have beds, kitchen, showers), during the second week – in Tytuvenai regional park visitors’ center, where they’ll sleep on the floor, on mattresses. Cooking will be done by volunteers themselves, a kitchen with cooking facilities will be provided (stove, microwave and a refrigerator). Showers and hot water for bathing will also be available
LEISURE TIME: The free time will be organized independently by the volunteers. They could visit famous pilgrim places in Siluva, Siluva museum, play volleyball or basketball, swim in lakes, visit forest museum, Bridvaisis mound, Tytuvenai church and monastery, rent bicycles and take a tour on Tytuvenai bicycle path (it goes around our both lakes), visit other places around and also have some nice evenings nearby bonfire in our yard. LOCATION: Tytuvenai is a small town with ~1700 inhabitants. In summer time there are more people, because many are coming to spend their summer vacation here. Municipality center – Kelme – is 18 km. away from Tytuvenai, a famous pilgrim center Siluva is only 8 km away, Siaulai, the 4th biggest city in Lithuania, is 40 km. away. Tytuvenai has 2 lakes, open basketball and volleyball sites, bicycle/pedestrians sightseeing paths, Tytuvenai pilgrim center and a forest museum.
