Jarvamaa – Jarva County lies in the very centre of Estonia, it covers area of 2700 km2 and has a total population of about 40 000 people. This area is known for he rich history, which left a lot of objects of historical and cultural heritage, as well as for its beautiful nature with hills, forests, springs, rivers and lakes. The idea of this camp is to help preservation of some historical and cultural sites of local importance. Yet the most important aim of this camp is to introduce multiculturalism and offer intercultural exchange to local young people of this rural area, who will be involved to the project. So participants are expected to present their cultures and pass the idea of volunteering to local youth.
The work may include clearing and tidying up green areas and objects of local importance, painting and light renovation jobs in different places of Jarvamaa County, mainly in the village of Imavere and town of Võhma. The work will be physical, mainly outdoors with working day lasting 5-7 hours, 5 days a week. Local young people will be joining international volunteers for work and leisure.
Volunteers will stay in one room of the community house buildings sleeping on the mattresses on the floor. Please bring your sleeping bag and pillow. Toilets and showers are available as well as kitchen with necessary equipment for cooking. There is also a washing machine. Volunteers will have to make meals on their own from the ingredients provide by the local host.
Location The first week of the camp will take place in the village of Imavere which lies in central-Estonia where the main road (Tallinn -Tartu) turns to Viljandi. Distance from Tallinn is 110 km, from Tartu 80 km, from Viljandi 50 km. For the second week the group will move to town of Võhma, which is about 20 km from Imavere. You will visit local Milk Museum and learn to make own butter and ice cream. Also visit to the ostrich farm is foreseen. It is planned to visit some towns of Jarvamaa and Viljandimaa Counties. This camp is absolutely suitable for people who enjoy rural life and want to learn more about history and culture of Estonia staying right in the heart of it!
Special requirements Volunteers should be interested in rural life, be ready to present our culture and participate in discussions about rural development and interact with local young people. It will be appreciated if volunteers can tell about national voluntary schemes and youth work for the benefit of the local development in their countries. As a work may be physical sometimes, volunteers should be in a good physical shape. Since camp takes place at two locations please be ready to move after the first week. PARTICIPATION FEE Due to lack of communal resources for this camp we ask participants to contribute 50 Euro towards the costs of local transport, leisure activities and general administration. This fee has to be paid by bank transfer before the beginning of the camp. If you cannot make bank transfer please contact your sending organization for solution.
