The school is in Viet Tri city, Phu Tho province, which is about 80km to the North West of Hanoi. There is very little chance for the students and teachers to meet foreigners to practice English and exchange communication skills. That’s why international volunteers are highly welcome and appreciated here. Main Aims and Activities The aim of the program is to provide foreign language (French) speaking environment for students to practice and improve their confidence in using a foreign language in communication. Hung Vuong High School for Gifted Students is a public school located in Viet Tri city, Phu Tho province. This is one of the best schools in the North of Vietnam and very well-known for its students’ outstanding studying results. There are about 1400 students of the age from 15 to 18 attending the grades 10, 11 and 12. The students will love volunteers in the beginning because you are different and closer to their age. You don’t give them homework and write tests. Although they are all very motivated to learn English, most of them are really talkative and it is difficult, to make 50 teenagers calm down while helping and correcting two of them.

Volunteers will be expected to help with the following: ? Improving listening/speaking skills for students ? Improving pronunciation for students ? Organizing games and other activities in classrooms ? Assisting local teachers in French classes ? Organizing French club ? Attending other activities held by the school if relevant and interested ? Organizing extra activities/clubs for students based on volunteers’ skills, interest or profession (dancing, singing or football club ) Normally volunteers will teach about 20 hours a week (or less if combined with another project). In summer time (June – July – August), volunteers will only work with the English club. Volunteers can work with a local teacher or sometimes on their own. Travel to work: 15-20 minutes on foot.

Volunteers will stay in a guest room of the school. Living conditions will be Vietnamese standard with separate bathroom, single bed with mattress. Food will be provided at accommodation. Meals will be mostly local food, which vary from the daily cooking schedule. Volunteers, especially those who are vegetarian may be required to do some cooking by them.

Lane 70, Han Thuyen street, Viet Tri city, Phu Tho province. It is approximate 73 kms far away from Hanoi.
