Daliao District is located in the south of Kaohsiung City, southern part of Taiwan. Daliao District is rich in vegetables. The output of adzuki bean is 90% in Kaohsiung. However, there are also many factories in Daliao. But the place you are heading, Zhong-Xing Community (out of the 25 communities) is in the center part of Daliao District, far away from the factories. Typical houses and farms are the major landscape. Zhong-Xing Community Development Association is known for its hospitality for the elders and the disabled who are live around. The Zhong-Xing community has been host the project of hospitality for elder people for decade, and for disabled for 6 years. This association bears the goal in mind; the goal is to make people living in this community could help and support to each other. Local senior people go to the community center twice a week and the disabled go to the community center from 12:00 to 16:00, Monday to Friday. Zhong-Xing designs different courses for them and the volunteers are trained to be the teachers. With social interaction, the elders and the disabled (most of them are mentally disabled) have changed; they become more active and optimistic. The disabled even learned daily-trifle skills. Recent years, Zhong-Xing has tried to develop different touring ways in order to show the elders¡¯ potentials and wisdom. With the community¡¯s multi-culture(residents included people from Mainland China and Taiwanese), Zhong-Xing found out unique scenic attractions (temples, Feng-Huang hill, etc.). Also, Zhong-Xing invented tasty food, such as sticky rice with adzuki/red bean sausage, red bean with pearl barley soup. During this project, volunteers will experience all the lovely things/places. You would go through the scenic attractions, try the newly-invented food, participate in agricultural activities, make food on your own (with the disabled). The best part is that you would have the chance to interact with local teenagers and help with elderly caring (such as accompanying elders to and fro their houses and supermarket). If you are interested in Taiwanese multi-culture, Zhong-Xing workcamp is your best choice. Aims: 1) Visit local elders and accompany them, doing service such as blood-pressure measuring, shopping with them. 2) Visit local unique scenic spots, doing service such as planting trees, observations and records. 3) Participate in local agricultural activities, learning to make Taiwanese traditional food. 4) Introduce your own culture to local teenagers.

We treasure the elders¡¯ wisdom and think it important to pass down their wisdom. In Zhong-Xing workcamp, you would experience things with the elders, such as massage for them and go shopping with them. Even more, you would have bike-riding to explore Zhong-Xing, find wisdom/knowledge in different places, such as temples, Feng-Huang hill, agricultural activities. It is also a camp for you to have deeper interaction with local teenagers, to broaden your view and perhaps make good friends. A hearty and earnest exploration would bring you a wonderful workcamp memory and experience.
