Batuloceng village is a beautiful agricultural village with Sundanese culture located in the mountainous area in West Java. Within this village, there is a cultural organization called Kabuyutan Sri Sunda. This village also known for its coffee “Java Preanger”, the oldest coffee in West Java. The local people of Batuloceng are also trying to support government in reforesting the surrounding forest, conserving Cikapundung river by reducing the animal waste (cow dung), and prepare Batuloceng become an ecotourism village. The spirit and motivation brought by volunteers are expected to raise the motivation of the local people to preserve the environment and their local culture for their future. There is a need to have international experiences for the children as well as the youth to broaden their knowledge and soft skill in term of non-formal education approach combined with the formal education at school. At the same time, this project is also to offer the volunteers a chance to experience local culture of Sunda ethnic and support the local farmers to maintenance their farm.

The main work is to support people to preserve the environment and their local culture. By getting involved as a part of the society, volunteers are expected to enhance motivate and raise the local’s awareness to preserve the forest, the springs water, the river, the environment in ecological way, the importance of learning English, and their culture. Volunteers could also organize school visit in the local schools. Please note that most of the students can be very shy for the first time to speak in English, which is why you need to be very patient and creative in building the atmosphere of the class. Volunteers need to build trust and relationship with the children before you do further activities. Volunteers can support the local people to make cow dung bricks and wormcasting to conserve Cikapundung river from animal waste. Volunteers can share “reduce, reuse and recycle programs” to local people, because in the rural place they don’t have garbage management system. Volunteers can also support the farmers to enrich their farm by sharing how the organic farm is managed in your country, how to cultivate the soil, how to make local food product, product packaging , marketing strategy, etc. This village is famous of their products such as tomato, chili, lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, milk, etc. This project is also open for volunteers who want to learn about agricultural and farming as well as learn the Sunda culture.

Volunteers will stay with host family and have their own room.
