TRAVAIL

This program is for those who have an interest in getting up close and personal with sea turtles in Huidong city, Guangdong province, China. You will get a hands-on experience working with one of the most ancient and amazing creatures alive today – sea turtles. The turtle reserve in China has a variety of turtles from 6 different species! You will learn a lot about these cool little creatures as you observe and take part in their lives. Through this program you will be able to take part in most aspects of sea turtle husbandry such as feeding, cleaning nets, and occasionally, you may also be asked to assist in scientific research and help improve the state of their beach with some rubbish collection. You will also get the opportunity to work on some educational programs to build awareness about the importance of sea turtle conservation. Working with us in Huidong is not only a great chance to learn about sea turtles and play a vital role in the reserve, but an opportunity to experience Chinese culture and interact with Chinese people at a grass-roots level. On a daily basis, we are working with local people, discussing the sea turtle?s plight and also trying to understand the local?s point of view. You will have the opportunity to develop important understanding and friendships with people who have many years of experience with sea turtles and on occasion, some local university students who love to visit the turtles. The sea turtle reserve is located in a beautiful town next to the sea, it has the one and only natural sea turtle breeding place in China. It also happens to be the biggest marginal sea in China. So if you not only love animals but would like to relax with some sunshine and beaches, here is the place for you!

SITUATION

Huidong is a coastal area that many from neighbouring towns use as a nice getaway to relax along its beaches. It is a county of southeastern Guangdong province, China, with some of South China Sea coast in the south of the county. It is under the administration of Huizhou City and should not be confused with the Huidong County in the Sichuan Province. Huidong has a lot to offer in terms of things to do and see. Although a guidebook can tell you everything you would need to know, here are a few ideas we recommend: Xunliao Bay This is a bay where you can enjoy sunshine and beach here. Here you will also find plenty of seafood. Thean Hou Temple Located near the Xunliao Bay, you will enjoy some local custom here and learn more about an ancient religion. Pinghai Old Town Here you can learn and explore the ancient history of Huidong Harbor.
