TRAVAIL

The core aims and objectives of this project are to help school children build their confidence and improve their level of English, which will help them in many ways in the future. A standard week will consist of preparing lesson plans and teaching children at a local school. You will also be able to teach a whole class either on your own or with other participants at the local school, while at the same time experiencing a uniquely different lifestyle. Specific tasks in the program may include: • Creating lesson plans • Managing English conversation and grammar exercises • Teaching informal English classes • Engaging in activities such as music, songs and games A typical day: You will leave the centre between 7 – 8 am in the morning or 1 – 2 pm in the afternoon depending on the schedule and you will be teaching at the kindergarten/school for approximately 2-4 hours. You will be expected to work five days a week, and will have the weekends off, giving you plenty of time to go on excursions around the country or to relax and unwind. All information about the project and various sites will be provided to you by our local coordinator on arrival. You will not be allowed to select projects and are required to join ongoing projects or carry out work as required by the local community. Aims &Objectives The aims &objectives is to help the kids grow in their confidence and learn better English which will help them in many ways in the future.

LOGEMENT &NOURRITURE

About the Accommodation Accommodation in Perak is a hostel dormitory. Furthermore, there is a refrigerator which you are welcome to use to store food and beverages. Food Arrangements Malaysian food is tasty and diverse and you can expect to experience a myriad of flavors and meals during their stay. Typical dishes include wanton noodles (noodles and pork dumplings either dry or soup), nasi goreng (fried rice and vegetables) or roti canai (is a type of Indian influenced flatbread found in Malaysia. Breakfasts are varied and and include toast, cereals, etc. Tea, coffee and purified water is available at the house. We do not recommend that you drink water straight from the tap. The Taiping project participants accommodation will be same as for Perak project participants. Facilities The centre is surrounded by plenty of shops, banks, atms, 7-11, supermarket and a shopping mall within 5 minutes walking distance. Supermarket, salon, Laundromat, money exchange, ATM, sim card shop, and photocopy shops are all located within 1 kilometers radius.

SITUATION

Taiping is a town located in Larut, Matang and Selama District, Perak, Malaysia. With a population of 217,647, it is the second largest town in Perak after Ipoh, the state capital. Its growth slowed down after that, but in recent years the town has been developing rapidly again. Perak State Museum is located in the town. Taiping also receives some limelight for being the wettest town in Peninsular Malaysia. The average annual rainfall is about 4,000mm in Taiping while the peninsula’s average is 2,000mm – 2,500mm. Its unusual rainfall has also led to a fertile collection of flora and century-old rain trees in the Taiping Lake Gardens.

Open all year, starting on Mondays, arrival on Sundays and departure on Saturday morning, participation fee 210€ per week. Program runs Mon-Fri, (free weekends). Mandatory to start the programme. Compulsory starting dates for 2018: Reception at KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) at the arrival (Sun 8 am to 8 pm). Early / Late arrival (Mon¬Sat): Pick¬ups outside regular arrival times are only available on a case by case basis, but no need to worry, you can easily get to our center on your own.
