Each of the two care-homes in this area cater for around 25 Vietnamese children with various disabilities; mainly blindness, but also children with mental health issues. Experience in this field (or one similar such as nursing, elderly care, child care) would be advantageous but is not essential. The children are around 5-20 years old. Some of these children are well enough to go to school, others make themselves useful at a local massage parlour. But for those too young or unable physically or mentally to do either, their whole day is spent at this caring facility, where your help would go a long way! The main role you will play at this program is caring for the children. This will be in the form of spending quality time with them, comforting them and socialising with them. You will also be arranging activities for the children and teaching them simple english words and phrases through lessons, games and conversations. You can also help in the daily tasks of the centre, like creating handicrafts to raise money, preparing food and assisting the children in their daily tasks. Your exact role will depend upon the needs of the disabled children’s home at the time. Activities enjoyed by the children which are encouraged include: playing games, dancing, singing and arts and crafts. Any activity encouraging creativity is welcomed for the children, so if you would like to bring any materials to assist with these activities, it would be warmly received!

About the Accommodation This cozy guesthouse has 7 available rooms and is conveniently located in the center of La Gi’s township with a beach only 10-15 minutes away by taxi. Sheets are cleaned weekly by local staff. It has a small lobby but there are surrounding coffee shops for any relaxing or journal writing you may want to do in your downtime. There are also several local restaurants that compete for who makes the best Pho in town. Please note that the quality of internet access will depend on local weather conditions. Since we are in Southeast Asia, we might have poor internet accessibility at times due to heavy rain. Food Arrangements Basic Vietnamese meals are provided at this guesthouse (or a restaurant out of the guesthouse in some cases).

La Gi is a small beach town located in the south of Vietnam. As a village town, La Gi’s attractions have a tendency to feel more authentic and closer to a local experience due to its non touristic nature. La Gi will give you the chance to live like a local and learn about life in Vietnam and unwind at its beautiful beaches!
