SEEDS Iceland was founded in 2005 as a non-governmental, non-profit volunteer organisation with international scope. Our main activities relate to the promotion of environmental protection and awareness, intercultural understanding and peace, through the work on social, cultural and environmental projects in Iceland. We aim to empower, inform and expand the horizons of people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds, to inform them about the world in which we live and to take an active role in its future development. SEEDS provides opportunities to live, learn, understand and experience, while sharing and cooperating with others from different cultures and backgrounds.
This is the tenth year -since 2008- that SEEDS organizes series of International Photo marathons. Throughout the year participants from all over the world come to Iceland for an intense Photography related camp. SEEDS coordinators work with the participants to develop their unique photographic skills through workshops and feedback sessions on technical settings, compositional considerations as well as developing conceptual frameworks which progress the participants individual style. When the workshop ends, we select some of our best pictures from the stay and prepare those images for an informal group exhibition locally. While learning about photography the participants explore Icelandic culture by taking part in it, capturing it and also by working for the City of Reykjavik. One of our objectives is to deliver messages and draw the attention to the locals through pictures made in the camp. Reykjavik Gay Pride 2017 takes place August 8-13. Many events and happiness colour the city during these days, participants will have the opportunity to enjoy the events and join the famous Parade! Reykjavik Pride is one of the most vibrant and popular events in Reykjavík’s cultural calendar. More details at www.gaypride.is
SEEDS participants will stay in an equipped house in Reykjavík, which is located about 4 Kilometres from the centre of the city. The facilities are basic with a shower, washing machine, kitchen and everyone is expected to show consideration for their companions. We will sleep in shared rooms and. participants shall bring their own sleeping bag. Participants from other other project may also stay in the house. Participants will receive food supplies and be in charge of the cooking and cleaning activities. Do not forget some traditional/typical food and recipes from your home country for the international evening.
Reykjavik is a dynamic, modern city which lives in harmony with beautiful nature, using renewable energy sources – geothermal power and glacial rivers. The world’s northernmost capital bridges the Atlantic, between Europe and North America. Reykjavík is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean on almost all sides. Reykjavík is an International city with a lively Cosmopolitan cultural scene surrounded with beautiful nature.
Participants should arrive ready to shoot and should bring with them their own digital cameras, lenses and laptops if possible. They should be prepared for walking and visually exploring the city streets and working within a flexible time schedule. Participants will be photographing in their free time outside of workshop hours with images to be discussed at group feedback sessions. Please note this project is more of a learning/sharing camp and not a regular work camp; we may be able to organize some outdoor voluntary service but it depends on our partners and weather conditions.
