The Green Lioon
Our Myanmar Culture week is a must for you to truly appreciate your new surroundings and overcome any “culture shock” you may experience. You will be introduced to this country’s culture, traditions, history and lifestyle in a short amount of time through: Burmese cooking lessons, language lessons, tours to famous historical spots, visits to ‘off the map’ local treasures and more! This is a great first step to take part in before you begin your community engagement projects. Familiarizing yourself through this Culture week will help you enjoy and appreciate your time here even more!
About the Accommodation During your participation in the program, you will be staying in an authentic monastery school. There is a school library where you can relax as well as family-owned shops where you can buy basic things. Food Arrangements Food served is basic and Burmese inspired, which consists of lots of rice, vegetables, meat, egg, etc.
You will be staying at an authentic Buddhist monastic school located in Northeastern Mandalay. The monastery is the home to over 1,000 children aged 7-18 whose parents are unable to care for or whose homes are too far from Mandalay. Monks and novices reside here as well. The students are friendly and always curious to meet newcomers. Many are pre-university students, which will allow you to interact and make new friends. This is a great chance for an authentic cultural exchange!
