TRAVAIL

Many local villagers need help with renovation and light construction. The little they earn goes towards their daily expenses, so it is common for their living quarters to be left in bad condition. This situation extends to communal areas such as schools, temples, and clinics too. They are usually in need of more funding and their maintenance budget tends to be very small or not considered a priority. This is where we saw a way to get involved with the community! By providing materials for repair, renovation and light construction, and using labour from our participants, we can assist the community while allowing you to engage with the community while helping them out! Our project coordinator will find the most suitable and most urgent work needed from you. Usually, this will mean housing renovation and light construction like painting. Other typical tasks could be repairing chairs, tables, building walls or toilets. Tasks will depend on local conditions and what is needed at the time, but you can expect to be working 4-5 hours a day.

LOGEMENT &NOURRITURE

About the Accommodation During your participation in the program, you will be staying in an authentic monastery school. There is a school library where you can relax as well as family-owned shops where you can buy basic things. Food Arrangements Food served is basic and Burmese inspired, which consists of lots of rice, vegetables, meat, egg, etc.

SITUATION

You will be staying at an authentic Buddhist monastic school located in Northeastern Mandalay. The monastery is the home to over 1,000 children aged 7-18 whose parents are unable to care for or whose homes are too far from Mandalay. Monks and novices reside here as well. The students are friendly and always curious to meet newcomers. Many are pre-university students, which will allow you to interact and make new friends. This is a great chance for an authentic cultural exchange!
