The Green Lion

We have partnered with a local monastery school looking for teachers of different work experiences/backgrounds. Do you have any practical skills you could share with the students? Examples of what you could teach are: Cooking/Culinary skills Basic programming Basic website design Hair dressing Carpentry Tailoring Learning more about a particular field through classes and exercises can inspire local students! We hope that some may even choose to further their study and get stable jobs in the future from such workshops. At the very least it will give them some life skills and broaden their ideas! The classes should be delivered as an active workshop, so you need to have practical or academic experience in your field and be confident in leading a group. You may not be in your comfort zone teaching in a language the students are not used to, so the more “hands on” your lessons are, the more your students benefit. The children are between 13 and 18 years of age and you may be expected to work 4-5 hours a day, about half that time being for preparation.

About the Accommodation During your participation in the program, you will be staying in an authentic monastery school. There is a school library where you can relax as well as family-owned shops where you can buy basic things. Food Arrangements Food served is basic and Burmese inspired, which consists of lots of rice, vegetables, meat, egg, etc.

You will be staying at an authentic Buddhist monastic school located in Northeastern Mandalay. The monastery is the home to over 1,000 children aged 7-18 whose parents are unable to care for or whose homes are too far from Mandalay. Monks and novices reside here as well. The students are friendly and always curious to meet newcomers. Many are pre-university students, which will allow you to interact and make new friends. This is a great chance for an authentic cultural exchange!

This program is only available to those with experience in a related trade or profession You will need to submit your document(s) to the monastery Additional Equipment Modest clothing – covering your shoulders, legs and down to your knees
