The Green Lion

Aldona, a village in North Goa, is one of the village were the population of migrants are increasing day by day, which has been the tradition for Goa since few years. The direct and negative effect of this tradition is to the school going children. They have to drop out their school for 4-5 months every year, as the family have to migrate to Aldona, all the way from Northern India (Uttarpardesh, Maharastra, Karnataka, Madhyepradesh etc), due to their odd jobs. So, the break in education for such a long time is a big loss. Hence, the main objective of this project is to give the migrated children the access and continuation to education. Despite, there being a public school already in the community doesn’t seem effective. The reason behind, might be: The population take education as less important, The distance to the school (5 Km), Poverty, Migrating tradition. To overcome this, The Green Lion has come with an alternative and has taken the initiative to run a community school nearby the village, where the education is free of cost and at the very walk able distance for the small children of the community. The Green Lion main concern is the realization of sustainable peace and development in which the youth, women, elderly, adults and children are involved in positive activities that will ensure socio-economic welfare in the Aldona. You will be involved in various activites such as: – Conduct educational classes for kindergarten kids – Special tuition for children in the evening – Vocational courses for the young girls – Women development training for the house wife – Holiday camps for the children during beginning of March to end of June – Teaching sports, chess training and various other mind strengthening games for the children – Environmental education – Provide awareness on household waste segregation and management – Planting saplings – Monthly community cleaning – Constructions and renovations of toilets, schools, library and bus stops with education and awarness posters.
