This would be a great experience, if you want to take a taste of the traditional food served in Sri Lanka since the hospitable villagers will serve you delicious food for the work you are doing to support them. Organic Farming : Your accommodation in Sigiriya is surrounded by a huge organic farm and you will be able to work in this farm under the supervision of the gardener. Through this program, you will be able to pick the freshly grown vegetables and taste some of them during your stay. Most of the time, you will be riding bicycles when you are visiting the project locations. The project aims to develop and help the local community in the everyday farming activities and also by renovating the monasteries to bring back their lost glory.
About the Accommodation : Your accommodation in Sigiriya would be an open space accommodation with wooden beds. The accommodation is surrounded by an organic farm and sometimes you will also be able to see a few wild elephants who visit the garden unexpectedly. There is also a tree hut if you would like to climb up so that you can see the beautiful surroundings of the village. If you are afraid of sleeping in the open space, we do have a room only for girls inside the accommodation. Around 25 participants can stay at the open space accommodation at a time. Since the weather in that area is hot most of the time, the hot water facility will not be available at the accommodation. The accommodation is built in a way where you can get fresh air throughout the day and night. Four bathrooms are also built at the accommodation which will have be shared among the participants. Food Arrangements : You will be provided with three meals a day on weekdays and two meals per day on weekends. The meals are a mix of Western and Sri lankan food, consisting mainly of vegetarian dishes including rice and vegetables.
Sigiriya is a village located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. The village is named after a giant rock which is popular around the world as the Lion’s Rock. Due to the presence of the monuments of a castle built on the top of the rock, thousands of tourists are attracted to Sigiriya every year. However, the village is not touristy and the locals in this area lead simple lifestyles. The majority of the people living in Sigiriya are Buddhists and thus the area consists of many temples that require development.
Participants above the age of 65 should have medical clearance.
