Our Medical Program is aimed to add to your work experience, while helping the local villagers you will care for. You will play a role in helping them get access to good and accessible health care. Kenya remains a developing country and its health sector remains a big concern. Communities, especially those in rural and less developed areas, are usually in need of affordable healthcare. In many small communities, there are government-owned health care and hospitals but unfortunately, they are often understaffed and remain limited in facilities and equipment. You will be working alongside local nurses, doctors and staff in either a small health care center or a district hospital (depending on the needs at the time). Depending on your level of experience, different tasks will be given to you.

About the Accommodation You will be accommodated in our center. All participants are expected to be environmentally aware and use all resources with restraint, especially water, paper and electricity. You will also be expected to clean up after yourself and play your part in keeping the accommodation neat and organized. Food Arrangements Food served will mainly be Kenyan food, which consists of meats, vegetables, potato, eggs, bread, pancakes (commonly known as “chapatti”) and fruits such as oranges, bananas and avocadoes.

Gatanga Village will be your new home and will give you the chance to see authentic rural Kenya. Close by is Thika, an industrial town where you will be able to find anything you need. Nairobi is not too far either, and you can head there during the weekend for nights out or sightseeing. Likewise, there are many natural areas in close proximity to Gatanga, a simple example are Fourteen Falls, a set of waterfalls that will leave you awestruck.

A medical background or related work experience – Nursing and medical students welcome Modest clothing – covering the knees and shoulders is required while working Medical gloves, scrubs and masks for yourself. Feel free to bring along more medical material/supplies that could be useful for your placement.
