AyO’s main programmes are: School Support: fostering in children who work a spirit of achievement that motivates them to improve their quality of life through their incorporation into formal education. Health Education: educate children so they try to and preserve their integral health and the one of their families. Youth Club: contribute to the comprehensive training of youth who work in the markets and areas surrounding the city’s rubbish dump, with empowerment and leadership through raising awareness and promoting a healthy and responsible lifestyle, with the aim of developing knowledge in the themes of sexual/reproduction health and generate alternative opportunities of participation. School for Parents: mentorship and guidance to parents on social aspects to prevent and decrease the levels of risk of their children and families. Medical Care and Psychological Care: providing comprehensive care to each beneficiary.

18+ years old. Female or male. Because of the work that requires a lot of communication it is preferable to have some knowledge of Spanish. No particular studies are required, social work experience is an asset. The volunteer must have interest and lots of patience in working with children, responsible and be prepared for hard work, skills that the volunteer can share and teach to the children, youth and parents, have initiative and creativeness. Project available to start in August and February every year for 6-12 months. BESOIN SPéCIAL Age: Older than 18. Gender: Indifferent. Language: Because of the work that is performed, it is preferable to have some knowledge of Spanish. Studies: Indifferent. Abilities and Attitudes: the project is open to all candidates who are willing to help the most needed people. However, he/she needs to have: interest and lots of patience in working with children, responsible and be prepared for hard work, skills that you can share and teach to the children, youths and parents, initiative and creativeness. ICYE Honduras was founded in 1981. The committee is run by former exchangees and volunteers. The national office, located in Tegucigalpa is run by a four-staff team.
Voluntary service placements include working with homeless and street children, disabled, children’s rights, homes for the elderly, sick or homeless people, health clinics, human rights organisations, indigenous groups, primary schools, youth organisations, and social projects in general. Attendance of university courses is allowed provided it does not interfere with voluntary service.
