ICYE Nepal


The aim of the program is to provide health care services in affordable cost with quality health services for the local people. At the same time to produce skilled health professional by providing them opportunity to explore their knowledge and skill. By then they could contribute to the needy people of the society. Main Activities It is community based Hospital .All type of Health care services is provided under one roof: diagnostic services, curative services, inpatient services, OPD services. All of treatment procedures are done by allopathic method and advance technology are always used to do Operation and other services .The hospital mainly known for Orthopedic surgery and physiotherapy services .But is have capability to provide all type of services under one roof. It is 100bedded well equipped hospital in the content of Nepal but for foreign candidate it won’t be well organized and well managed because of system varies in western country and developing country. Volunteer tasks The tasks of volunteer depends on her/his qualifications and the education background. For the doctor, the management team of Sahid will provide opportunity to work under the supervision of them. So the volunteer can follow the doctors´ round to observe the treatment type and procedure . For the nurse, the chief of nurse is responsible to manage her/his work division.The main focus will be on patient care , taking vital signs, giving medication, providing health care counseling, taking care of the patient in the ER, ICU and operation ward etc. For the physiotherapist, the physiotherapy department is responsible to provide them job. Basic manual skills are performed for the patient either for the patients or for OPD patients. The hospital management is guiding in every step for the volunteer to avoid confusion on work since the treatment procedure is very different in Nepal comparing to other countries.


Volunteers will stay in the Kalanki hostel which is located nearby The hospital. It takes only 5 minutes walking for you to reach hospital so there is no need of transportation to reach the project from Hostel. You will be sharing rooms with volunteers of other nationalities joining the same program. Lunch &dinner are provided at the hostel. Food is local style mainly but there the hostel cook may serve different type of Nepalese and Indian food .The main types of food will be rice, lentil soup and vegetables but once a week hostel person will provide you meat in your lunch or dinner. For vegetarians the choice is usually limited to rice, vegetables, lentil soup and pickle.


The project is located at the heart of Kalanki-Chock .Which is the crossroad for capital in–out.


Volunteers must be 20 years old minimum and they should have medical background (Doctor, nurses, physiotherapist) or the currently graduates from the medical related course. Candidate should be open-minded and should not be judgmental. He/she should be enthusiastic to learn in New different Environment. Extra fee : 350 € for 4 weeks, 50 € for each additional week. NB : a donation to the hospital will have to be paid : 1Week- 2week -$75, 3week -4 week -$150, 5week-6 week-$225, 7 week – 8 week -$300, 9 week- 10 week -$375, 11 week-12 week-$450)

The ICYE programme started in Nepal in 2001. In 2004 it was renamed Nepal Volunteers and Cultural Youth Exchange Program (NVCYE-Program). The main office is in Kathmandu

The mainstay of the programme is voluntary service in urban and rural project located in the different parts of Nepal. Most volunteer placements are in teaching English, orphanages, conservation/eco-work, health care, rehabilitation and natural healing.
