University of Lagos (UNILAG) is one of the principal universities in Nigeria and boasts many different departments. The radio station is located in the heart of the university. UNILAG Radio station operation the frequency modulation 109.7. The mission of UNILAG is to promote learning and research between students and staff in an enabling environment and to be a highly rated university. The establishment of the radio is to help in achieving theis mission. The radio station focuses on youth and what they go through in their daily lives. Volunteer tasks : – Create programmes on relevant issues e.g. HIVAIDS – Develop a meaningful strategy to get the meaning across. The volunteer can contribute with his/her own ideas on how to create awareness or how to reach people in the easiest way.
Host family with shared room. Two meals provided by host family – lunch at placement.
– Literate in oral and written English. – Good interpersonal skills and must be tolerant to people from other cultures. – Must have a good sense of humour and be creative. – Basic knowledge of radio presentation is essential. – Knowledge in current musical updates and also knowledge in organising radio shows (this is not essential). What to bring: – Torchlight, mosquito net, European costumes etc. – Materials for radio presentations, i.e. CDs, magazines, stories about musical artistes etc. are most welcome!
