REGAINING INDEPENDENCE IN AN ASSISTED LIVING ENVIRONMENT Our partner association was established through the initiative of a group of friends who decided to create places of shared living which allow the disabled individual to live with friends and family. These informal settings include meals prepared and shared together, social activities and celebrations (cultural, recreational and sporting…) In 2010, the first shared home was opened in Vanves, a town just outside Paris. After the success of the first shared home, groups of “companions” in association with our partner established homes in ten other cities in France. Our partner organisation helps to structure these projects, giving the groups technical and financial support in order to create their own shared homes. Our partner association shared Home is upheld as a societal project based on the “art of shared living” between both disabled and able-bodied individuals. It is a testimony to the idea that trust and community arise when people come together in a time of need.
– Assist the disabled people with whom you shall live with their day-to-day life. – Be someone residents can relate to and feel safe with. – Actively participate in all the events which mark life in the apartment (activities chosen by each resident, preparing meals, organising leisure time, etc.) and contribute to making it lively and welcoming). – Be fully committed to life in the shared homes (parties, outings, activities, etc.)
Volunteers live in a very nice green area and in a shared home : they have a personnal bedroom of about 15-20 m2 with kitchenette and bathroom. Meals are prepared in the shared home by employed assistants, volunteers and disabled persons. Everybody take lunchs and dinners together in shared dinning room.
Vanves is very close to Paris, about 15 minutes by tube. So volunteer can enjoy the social and cultural environment of Paris. Paris is yours !
