The Maputo Natural Reserve, with 1040 km² of area (locally known as Reserva Especial de Maputo) is located in the southernmost part of Mozambique, 79 km south of Maputo Province, on the Inhaca Peninsula. It encompasses the area from the Indian Ocean on the eastern boundary to the Rio Maputo on the western edge. The Maputo reserve is part of the Lubombos Tran frontier park, which links the Maputo Elephant Reserve in Mozambique through the Futi Corridor and the Lubombo Conservancy in Swaziland to the Tembe Elephant Park in South Africa, creating the first major elephant stronghold along Africa?s eastern coastline. — Leisure Activities : Weekends are meant to be for free tours that the group can organize by itself. You can decide to visit places of interest around the area of the work camp. It has now become a custom in all our Workcamps to have cultural nights. This affords each volunteer the opportunity to present her/his country and culture. Please bring with you your national flag and traditional dress if possible. Sports and artistic moments will be organized together by the participants and local community. In some cases the workcamp may run during special event (festival, fairs, workshops and others) occurring close to the area where the camp will be running.
The workcamp participation fee is strictly US$250 and this covers simple accommodation, food and project expenses during the camp. Please note that this does not include travel expenses to and from the camp, so participants are asked to reserve a small amount of money for transport to the camp and vice-verse. We advise all volunteers to ask for advice from us when they are planning to book their ticket to Mozambique.
