The idea of creating AJUDE dates back to 1993.

27 kms away from Quelimane, the capital of Zambezia Province. Zambezia is located in the center part of Mozambique, about 1665 kms from capital Maputo. Quelimane is Mozambique fourth-largest town with a population of roughly 140,000. This city was almost founded by Muslim traders. The first Portuguese trading factory at Quelimane was established in 1530 and the town appears on Portuguese maps dating from 1560. The surfaced road from Quelimane to Zalala passes through one of the most extensive coco-nut palm plantation in Africa, and the wide sandy beach offers good swimming and surface. — Leisure Activities : Weekends are meant to be for free tours that the group can organize by itself. You can decide to visit places of interest around the area of the work camp. It has now become a custom in all our Workcamps to have cultural nights. This affords each volunteer the opportunity to present her/his country and culture. Please bring with you your national flag and traditional dress if possible. Sports and artistic moments will be organized together by the participants and local community. In some cases the workcamp may run during special event (festival, fairs, workshops and others) occurring close to the area where the camp will be running.
The workcamp participation fee is strictly US$250 and this covers simple accommodation, food and project expenses during the camp. Please note that this does not include travel expenses to and from the camp, so participants are asked to reserve a small amount of money for transport to the camp and vice-verse. We advise all volunteers to ask for advice from us when they are planning to book their ticket to Mozambique.
