Kenya Voluntary Development Association (KVDA) is an indigenous, non-political and membership organization which is non-sectarian and non-profit making started in 1962 as a work camp organization registered under the Societies’ Act. In 1993, KVDA was registered as a Non-Governmental organization by the establishment of the NGOs Coordination Act. KVDA has since inception hosted over 50, 000 international volunteers to its community service development projects that have left indelible mark to efforts to enhance sustainable development.


TASKS FOR POSITION OF VASCO COORDINATOR : Required Qualifications and Experience: • University degree or compensatory experience and course work • Strategic planning, business planning, and project proposal writing skills • Computer literacy – MS excel, word, access • Training skills • Familiarity with voluntary sector operations • Specialized knowledge and experience of community development and basic services delivery methodologies • Experience in youth work; including demonstrable ability to design programs, policies, procedures and service delivery mechanisms • Experience in management and leadership MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensure appropriate program planning, monitoring and development. • Provide technical assistance and managing the development, monitoring, administration, and evaluation of partner portfolio in VASCO. • Advise on quality standards and opportunities for enhanced programming. • Manage the entire project cycle for VASCO: solicit funding; maintain financial management over resources for projects; and strengthening the capacities of partners in the project cycle. • Publish Strategic and Business Plan. • Innovate, develop and refine the methodologies of service delivery. • Publish the quality guide. Provide technical assistance, including institutional development support to partners/ members. • Follow closely the development of regulations for the voluntary sector in Kenya. • Keep VASCO and partners posted of the developments in the sector and advise them accordingly. • Guide and support partners in their efforts to create suitable fora, articulate their aspirations and play a more significant role in the voluntary sector. • Assist desiring partners to create autonomous organizations and to achieve scale in operations. • Oversee employment of suitable staff at VASCO. • Provide support to partners’ Boards of Directors, through institutional development training and advice, to enable them to develop strong and effective service delivery channels. • Appraise and select additional partners. • Conduct monitoring and technical visits to the partners when called upon. • Ensure execution of national level training for partners. • Oversee the delivery of institutional development training for partners’ Boards and staff. • Oversee evaluations of partners and the accreditation process. • Ensure timely submission of reports. • Follow up on proposals for funding of projects. Manage VASCO and engage in program operations. • Participate in program meetings, planning, project tracking and internal systems requirements. • Actively participate in program management meetings to define program vision, integration of gender responsiveness in design of projects, monitoring and evaluation tools. • Provide input into recruitment and orientation to new staff. • Conduct regular review/ planning meetings. Use these meetings as an effective learning forum for partner staff; and for sharing ideas and seeking solutions to any challenges faced. • Oversee the implementation of annual planning. • Oversee provision of performance feedback to partners. • Participate in VASCO training workshops, and follow up activities, and share relevant experience. • Ensuring technical development of staff and keeping abreast with state of the art technology in the microfinance field. • Establish appropriate contacts and provide information to relevant organizations as required.


• Volunteers will be hosted at KVDA Residence in Nairobi but will share other amenities and meals with the rest of the volunteers accommodated at the Residence. It is convenient for the volunteer to carry sleeping bag, mat and personal effects.


LOCATION : KVDA Residence in Nairobi. LEISURE : Kenya is replete with a lot of interesting and natural spectacular sites of interest that would capture the imagination of volunteers. From the tour to the renowned Maasai Mara Game Reserve to visits to local community beholding sights, the volunteers have the previledge to make choices that would fundamentally make the difference. The project also offers a perfect opportunity for people who enjoy being close to nature and are interested in the spectacular setting that traditional way of living in the heartland of the African culture would enrich your cultural heritage.


PROJECT START DATES : • Volunteers are accepted to join this project at any time of the year and should arrive in Kenya on 20th day of the month. The duration of placement is flexible depending on the availability of the volunteer. • 2-day orientation seminar will be done on the 21st and 22nd of every month. FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTION : The project participation fee is Euro 200 per month (for more than 1 month stay). Fee is Euro 300 for volunteers staying one month only.
