PARTENAIRE

Itatalo farm has a long history since medieval times. It represents local cultural heritage which is being protected in order to conserve it to future generations as well. There are various activities in the farm to keep it alive, accommodation and catering services etc. There is also a small local heritage association which promotes the importance of local heritage.

TRAVAIL

Volunteers will take part in various renovation work such as painting the walls with traditional paint and fixing walls and windows etc. The farm uses ecological materials and methods. Be ready to participate in a wide variety tasks such as tidying the environment, making firewood, assisting in kitchen etc. The project is very suitable for volunteers interested in traditional building and ecological living.

LOGEMENT &NOURRITURE

Volunteers will sleep in beds with bed linen, showers are available. Food is mainly vegetarian, but other options will also be available. The volunteers will be cooked together and volunteers will also take part in other household chores.

SITUATION

Itatalo is located in beautiful archipelago of Kustavi near Turku in western Finland, about 150 km from Helsinki. www.kustavi.fi The farm is about 12 km from the village of Kustavi, so the place is great for nature lovers. There will be some organised activities like an excursion to Turku, but mainly the volunteers will organize their own free time. The local host is the municipal youth office of Urjala. This is the first time they host an international work camp and the local youth is eagerly waiting to get international participants to their local community.

TRAVAIL

The volunteers will assist in organising small local cultural events so you are welcome to use all your talents in the field of music, theatre and art. They will be also other tasks such as maintaining and upgrading local cultural sights.

LOGEMENT &NOURRITURE

Basic shared accommodation in a youth house. The volunteers will prepare meals themselves.

SITUATION

Urjala is a small peaceful community in western Finland about 160 km from Helsinki. Urjala is located in beautiful countryside with lakes and forests. There are also interesting local industrial and cultural sights for exploring and some excursions will be arranged.

The host of this camp is the Youth Department of Janakkala. They have hosted several work camps before very successfully.

TRAVAIL

The volunteers will work in a summer camp for local children and youngsters. Volunteers will work alongside the local youth workers and international long term volunteers. Camp activities include arts and crafts, swimming, hiking, campfire and sports. The aim of this camp is to give international and multicultural experiences to the local children and youth and to break barriers between different cultures. The volunteers should be prepared to take part in all duties including keeping the place tidy. This camp is an excellent opportunity to experience Finnish culture and non-formal education in beautiful nature surroundings.

LOGEMENT &NOURRITURE

Volunteers will sleep in the center building where the summer camp takes place. During the summer camp days volunteers have meals together with the children. At the weekend the volunteers will cook together.

SITUATION

The municipality of Janakkala and the camp centre Mallinkainen is situated in Southern Finland, about 90 kilometers from Helsinki. The camp is by the lake in the middle of a forest, good possibilities for swimming, fishing and hiking. Please note that the camp does not have regular bus connections to the city.

: It is not allowed to use tobacco, alcohol or drugs during this camp. Accepted volunteers will need to provide a certificate of good conduct (criminal record sheet) in English one month before the beginning of the camp and bring the original with them.The volunteers need travel insurance for the duration of their stay. PARTENAIRE

This camp is organized by Helsinki City Youth Department and their youth workers will lead the camp. The City of Helsinki owns the Bengtsår island where the volunteers will stay and work for most of the camp. The island is located about 100 km from Helsinki near a town called Hanko.

TRAVAIL

In this camp the volunteers will work with practical maintenance tasks such as hay cutting, woodwork and other similar activities on the Bengtsår Island. The island is a protected environment area that has a very varying nature. The first night of the camp will be in a youth centre in Helsinki, the next six nights we will stay on the Bengtsår island and for the last two nights we will return to Helsinki. You will get a chance to get to know Finnish culture and Helsinki also. In this camp you will meet youth from Finland and other countries and get to learn about the nature and sea.

LOGEMENT &NOURRITURE

Accommodation on the island will be in tents with wooden floors and bunk beds. In Helsinki the accommodation will be in the youth centre and the volunteers should bring sleeping bags and mats (e.g. yoga mats). Volunteers will prepare meals together and on some occasions the food will be provided by the camp host.

SITUATION

Bengtsår is a beautiful island located outside Hanko about 100km from Helsinki. Pakila youth centre is situated in Helsinki and is reached by public transport from the airport. During the camp there are several summer activities such as sauna and swimming, campfire evenings, different sports and exploring the beautiful surrounding nature on the island.

This camp is organized by the municipality of Vaala. Lamminaho is a unique complex of traditional buildings that consists of items and buildings that date back to 1700 and onwards. Lamminaho is an exceptionally well-preserved example of traditional Finnish buildings. They have hosted very successful work camps earlier.

TRAVAIL

Volunteers will participate in the renovation of local history museum area in Lamminaho, especially in making a traditional Finnish wooden shingle roof. The volunteers will work on a roof so one can not be afraid of heights. The work will be outdoors in all weather conditions.

LOGEMENT &NOURRITURE

The accommodation is in Uiton Maja which is a well-equipped cabin by a lake. It is possible to heat up the sauna every day and swim as well. The food will be cooked together.

SITUATION

Vaala is a beautiful place in northern Finland about 90km from Oulu and 600 km from Helsinki. In this camp history and nature are combined with recreational opportunities of Lake Oulujarvi and Rokua Geopark area. The volunteer can practise activities such as hiking and kayaking.

Youth Centre Anjala is one of the 10 national youth centres in Finland, supported and supervised by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The Youth Centre has a non-profit civic responsibility of promoting a good life for children and young people. Our main purpose is to serve children and young people as well as support the work of teachers and trainers. TRAVAIL

The volunteers will work mainly outdoors to maintain the traditional landscape and park in the area. They will also assist in various activities when needed, for example organising events for children. The volunteers will also get to know the everyday life in the Finnish countryside. The goal is to increase multicultural activity in Anjala and its community and learn from each other.

LOGEMENT &NOURRITURE

Accommodation is organized in a hostel apartment with shared kitchen, living room and a bathroom. The volunteers will get most meals from the canteen of the youth centre, sometimes it might be possible to cook.

SITUATION

Anjala is a small village, 25 km from Kouvola and about 140 kms from Helsinki. The Youth Centre is situated by a beautiful area by the River Kymijoki. On the same area there is an old manor building and agricultural school. Volunteers can use the facilities and equipment of the youth centre.

Le projet permet de s’immerger dans une culture différente de la sienne et a comme vocation de répondre aux besoins éducatifs et sociaux des jeunes d’aujourd’hui. En travaillant comme bénévole international, le volontaire est sensibilisé aux différences sociales et culturelles. Il apprend également à s’adapter, gagne en autonomie, développe confiance en lui et capacité à résoudre les problèmes. Ce programme n’exige aucune qualification ou autre condition particulière, si ce n’est une forte motivation, de l’enthousiasme et une année de disponibilité. Dans le cadre des projets auxquels ils participent, les jeunes apprennent à assumer des responsabilités et à s’impliquer dans une équipe dans les domaines suivants : social, socio médical, culturel, environnemental ou éducatif. Cette expérience doit permettre aux jeunes de développer leurs aptitudes non seulement sur les plans personnel et social, mais également sur celui professionnel.
